Actors Kim Hyang-gi and Cha Hak-yeon, who are teaming up for Coupang Play's new high-teen series "The absolute value of romance," revealed the fresh faces of youth.
The two leads of "The absolute value of romance," Kim Hyang-gi and Cha Hak-yeon, which premiered on the 17th (released every Friday at 8 p.m. on Coupang Play), unveiled distinctive visual photo spreads and interviews in the May issue of fashion magazine Cosmopolitan.
In the interview conducted along with the photo shoot, the two expressed deep affection for the work. Cha Hak-yeon said, "It's a series in which the youth and growth of the characters are clearly visible," adding, "Watching Woo-su grow because of Eui-joo was very relatable to me, and the final classroom scene was truly moving." Kim Hyang-gi also expressed confidence, saying, "The work conveys its message easily and naturally. It will offer warm empathy and laughter."
The discussion about the 'synchronization rate' between the real person and the character is also interesting. Cha Hak-yeon laughed, "My speech and personality are very different from the cool-headed math genius Ga Woo-su, but both of us share a strong 'T(logical)' tendency," eliciting laughs. Kim Hyang-gi said, "High school student Eui-joo's passionate pursuit of her dream of becoming a writer resembled my own days when I was completely absorbed in acting during school, so I tried to draw on that experience," adding depth to the character.
An unprecedented episode that hints at the on-set atmosphere drew particular attention. Cha Hak-yeon picked the fainting scene in episode 3 as the most memorable, revealing the behind-the-scenes story: "There is a scene where perfectionist Woo-su faints because of pigeon droppings, and while I had my eyes closed, Ms. Hyang-gi acted so vividly beside me that I kept laughing and we had more than 10 NGs," which provoked laughter. Kim Hyang-gi selected the scene in episode 1 where the handsome male teachers are introduced for the first time as a standout moment, conveying the work's unique cheerful atmosphere.
"The absolute value of romance" is a youth comedy with a bold premise in which high school girl Yeo Eui-joo (played by Kim Hyang-gi) becomes a bestselling author by writing a BL novel about the handsome male teachers who are assigned to her school.
