Model-turned-broadcasters Lee Sora and Hong Jin Kyung reunite after 15 years and open up about their true feelings for each other.
MBC's new variety show "Sora and Jin Kyung" (directed by Kang Seong-a, Jang Ha-rin, Yoon Dong-wook; writer Shin Jae-kyung) is a reality program that follows first-generation supermodels Lee Sora and Hong Jin Kyung, who dominated the 1990s, as they once again challenge the runway where they burned with passion in their 20s.
Lee Sora said of the reason she met Hong Jin Kyung again after 15 years, "Although we hadn't kept in touch for a long time, seeing how gracefully she was getting older made me curious about Hong Jin Kyung the person," and added, "the decisive reason I accepted was that I wanted to meet her in person." Hong Jin Kyung also said of her feelings after the reunion, "Once we actually met, I wondered why I hadn't contacted her sooner, since it was so easy to meet."
The core of this program is that the two will take on Paris Fashion Week, and although they are veterans, the runway is both thrilling and frightening. At 56 years old and wearing high heels again, Lee Sora said, "At first I thought, 'No way.' That was because the harsh memories from my modeling days remained like trauma," and added, "but through this challenge I wondered if old wounds might be healed. Above all, I placed meaning on the act of taking on the challenge itself."
Hong Jin Kyung drew strength from a strong supporter, her daughter Lael, who had been the center of attention over a photo retouching controversy. Hong Jin Kyung said, "My daughter Lael cheered, 'Mom's face is unique. There's no one like mom on the street. You can definitely walk the show,' and that encouragement gave me great strength."
