(Continuing from interview ①) Singer Kim Jae-hwan expressed his wish for a full-group Wanna One stage.
On the 20th at a cafe in Gangnam District, Seoul, an interview was held with Kim Jae-hwan, who is making a comeback with the new song "I'll come pick you up now" after being discharged from the military. Kim Jae-hwan's new digital single "I'll come pick you up now" is a rock-ballad genre song that carries a message of love and consolation, promising to always stay by your side even in exhausting moments.
When asked how he felt about reuniting with Wanna One members seven years after the disbandment, Kim Jae-hwan said, I thought a lot about the old days. I'm 31 now, and back then I was 21. When I'm with the members, there are times I feel like I'm back to being 21. That's fun. Above all, nothing specific has been discussed yet, but it made me hopeful that the day we perform again in the distant future will come soon. It seems difficult because there are many members and different agencies, but I hope that, as if we met and reunited by fate, the stage will come in the near future.
Except for Kang Daniel, who is serving in the military, and Lai Kuan-lin, who retired from the entertainment industry and is working as a film director in Taiwan, the Wanna One members met fans directly at DMC Culture Park in Sangam-dong, Mapo District, Seoul, ahead of the release of 'Wanna One Go : Back to Base'. At the time, despite the rainy, inclement weather, they successfully held the opening ceremony for 'Wanna One Go : Back to Base', performing 'It's Me' in front of fans who came to the venue.
When asked about the situation at the time, Kim Jae-hwan said, It rained a lot then, and since it was a weekday, office workers were at work and students were at school, so I honestly wondered if many people would come. But many people came, and I was very grateful. I also felt sorry. And I thought that if we keep this feeling unchanged, although our group ended then, perhaps now is the timing when we can truly promise eternity.
Regarding the photo that recreated the selfie from seven years ago and drew attention, he said, When I first asked someone to take the selfie, I wondered what kind of photo it would be, but later I saw it had been posted. Of course we can't be the same as then. Time passes, so we inevitably change, but the purity, individuality and charm that these people had back then seem to remain, so I had a strong desire to perform soon. I think we would perform even better than then. Everyone worked hard on their solo activities. They may not realize it, but those activities likely became a stepping stone for growth, and everyone has become veterans by now, so when we come together as one, I expect the stage synergy will show a different and cool charm compared with back then.
However, he said there are absolutely no plans for performances as Wanna One. Kim Jae-hwan said, After hearing more about it, I realized this isn't an easy thing. I have expectations and questions too, so I keep asking, but planning this doesn't seem easy, so all we can do is pray. We're just praying, he said, drawing laughter.
When asked whether he wants Wanna One activities to continue not as a one-off but continuously, he laughed and said, All our members want that. Everyone is just praying hard. Even friends with no religion are praying to every god they can think of. Furthermore, Kang Daniel is currently serving in the military, and there are members who will soon have to enlist. Kim Jae-hwan candidly said, Actually, the timing is awkward. It's tricky if some are present and some are not. So I think we'll need time to coordinate and have conversations to make sure no one feels hurt if we perform without certain members.
He added, Actually I don't know. This is purely my personal thought; how things will unfold is truly a matter of fate. It's up to prayer, so I hope it goes well. I hope the day comes soon when we, as Wanna One, stand in the spotlight and perform, and the day we meet Wannables comes soon, he wished. (Continued in interview ③).
