Comedian Masaruko, formerly of Japanese idol group Yoshimotozaka46, announced his retirement from the entertainment industry.
Masaruko directly declared his retirement from the entertainment industry on his personal social media on the 17th.
Masaruko, who debuted as a comedy duo in 2016, is a famous Japanese comedian. In particular, he attracted attention after coming out as gay following his debut. He also formed the mixed-gender idol group Yoshimotozaka46, composed of Japanese comedians, in 2018.
He drew intense interest in 2023 when he announced he had married his boyfriend. Masaruko's partner is an elementary school teacher in Japan, and the two are reported to be recognized as a same-sex couple in a common-law marriage.
Regarding his retirement announcement, Masaruko said, "I left my agency on the 10th anniversary of my debut. I have no intention of continuing entertainment activities." He also emphasized, "I didn't start because I wanted to do comedy. But I pursued various activities such as TV, drama and voice acting, and I achieved the idol I dreamed of through Yoshimotozaka46, so I have no regrets."
About his plans after retiring from the entertainment industry, Masaruko said, "I plan to run a shop with my beloved partner and our dog and live together. This is the happiest moment of my life," drawing support. <
