Actor Lee Hyoje shared behind-the-scenes stories of what she prepared for her performance in "Girigo."
On the 21st at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Seoul, a Highlight screening and press conference for the Netflix series "Girigo" took place. The event was hosted by Park Kyungrim and attended by director Park Yunseo, Jeon Soyoung, Kang Mina, Hyun Woo Seok, Lee Hyoje and Roh Jae Won.
The Netflix series "Girigo" is the story of high school students who are suddenly warned of imminent death because of the curse of the wish-granting application "Girigo" and who struggle to escape that curse.
Rising actors Jeon Soyoung, Kang Mina, Baek Sunho, Hyun Woo Seok and Lee Hyoje play high school students entangled in the curse of "Girigo" — "Seah", "Nari", "Geonwoo", "Hajun" and "Hyunguk" — delivering bold, energetic performances, while Jeon Sonee and Roh Jae Won play shamans "Haetsal" and "Bangul" who join them in breaking the curse, showing a strong presence.
That day Lee Hyoje described her character, saying, "Hyunguk is a friend who likes hanging out with his friends and has an innocent charm. He is the first to discover the Girigo app and, by introducing it, opens the door to the incident."
She continued, "Before filming there was talk that it would be good if I gained weight, so I gained about 20 kg. They gave me enough time. Of course, I am not someone who easily gains weight, so there was difficulty with eating and doing that. But after eating a lot I did become the type to gain weight, so losing it became harder. During filming I had many blood sugar spikes and some ups and downs. Still, I tried hard to get through it and to put on the weight."
Director Kim laughed and said, "I apologize. I want to say I'm sorry," adding, "Hyunguk has a slightly otaku-ish side. But because actor Hyoje is so handsome, we wanted to hide that look, so we asked her to gain weight."
