Hollywood actors Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's so-called "Miraval war" is growing more intense with no sign of ending. Their legal dispute over a French winery valued at $164 million (Hanwha about 240.9 billion won) clashed again over setting a trial date.
On the 21st (local time), according to the Daily Mail, Angelina Jolie recently asked the court in filed papers to schedule the trial related to Château Miraval with her ex-husband Brad Pitt for Sept. 2027. That is five months later than April 2027, which Pitt had originally sought.
Pitt's side strongly criticized Jolie's move as a "typical delay tactic." A close associate told the media, "It's disappointing that Jolie's strategy focuses solely on delaying rather than resolving or concluding the matter."
Pitt's camp says "time is of the essence." In court papers, Pitt pleaded that "I have been deprived for years of the peaceful life I should enjoy at the French residence because of the tedious legal battle with Jolie." He stressed that key witnesses in the case are aging and that one has already died, arguing the trial should be concluded as soon as possible so each can get on with their lives.
Jolie, meanwhile, flatly rejected Pitt's claims. Jolie said, "Delaying the trial by five months has little impact on the outcome of the case." She also slammed his claim that the trial schedule should avoid the Jewish High Holidays, saying, "He has not even properly provided a list of legal team members whose work would be affected," calling his argument "malicious and petty nitpicking."
The two met in 2005 on the film Mr. & Mrs. Smith and were affectionately dubbed "Brangelina," winning worldwide admiration. But after splitting in 2016, their divorce was not finalized until Dec. 2024, eight years later, and during that process they engaged in endless litigation over the sale of winery equity and child custody.
Pitt sued in 2022, alleging Jolie breached the contract by selling winery equity to Russian tycoon Yuri Shefler without his consent. Jolie has countered that she did not need Pitt's permission.
The two have six children: Maddox (24), Pax (22), Zahara (21), Shiloh (19), and twins Vivienne and Knox (17). Public fatigue is growing over the couple's endless legal battles that turned them from a "couple of the century" into "enemies of the century."
