Singer and actor IU's performance has finally pushed Perfect Crown past double-digit ratings.
On the 18th, the MBC Friday-Saturday drama Perfect Crown (written by Yoo Ji-won, directed by Park Jun-hwa and Bae Hee-young) recorded a viewership rating of 11.1% (Nielsen Korea nationwide). That is an increase of 2.1 percentage points from the 9.0% recorded by episode 3, which aired on the 17th, and is Perfect Crown's highest rating to date.
Perfect Crown, which surpassed double-digit ratings in its fourth episode and continues its hot popularity, centers on IU.
IU, who plays Seong Hee-ju in the drama, convincingly drew the character's emotional arc and narrative, raising immersion. Even when she is targeted with an egg attack after a scandal involving IAAN, she stands her ground confidently rather than shrinking back, expressing the character's independent nature through delicate facial expressions, eye contact and speech.
IU's persuasive acting also shone in the natural development of her relationship with Lord Iaan (Byeon Woo-seok). In the first kiss she detailed feelings of surprise, embarrassment and excitement, and during the baseball stadium date her casual styling showed a natural charm while also revealing a lovable, celebrity side.
As she grows closer to the palace women and receives training from the chief court lady, she forms new chemistry with them, and in the car accident crisis she realistically portrayed not only fear and panic but also a desire to protect the young royal first amid the danger, increasing tension.
