On 'My Ugly Duckling,' Kim Jongmin was swindled as many as three times, and his wife's reaction to his assets drew laughter.
On the 19th episode of the SBS variety show My Ugly Duckling (My Ugly Duckling), Kim Jongmin revealed he had been scammed.
After hearing Yang Chi-seung's and Kim Jongmin's scam stories that day, Kim Jongmin also confessed to being scammed. Kim Jongmin said, "There are so many, there's still a lot of money I haven't received," which surprised everyone.
Kim Jongmin said, "I was offered a business to deliver liquor containing silkworm cocoons when KOYOTE was starting, in my early 20s," and added, "It was all the money I had," which drew pity. He said he started the silkworm cocoon business at others' encouragement.
Later, Kim Jongmin, who said he was scammed in a clothing business in 2006, said, "They told me I had to invest more," and that he was offered an additional investment amid news of business expansion, adding, "But after that they didn't contact me; when I inquired I found out they had gone to a casino with the investment money," which he said sadly.
It didn't end there. Kim Jongmin, who said he was scammed again in 2007, recalled, "I went to sell a foreign car because I didn't need it anymore. They said the car sold in one day and asked for the vehicle registration certificate," and said, "I gave the vehicle registration certificate and they stopped contacting me; when I checked the vehicle was gone and they had fled abroad," which he said sadly.
Heo Kyunghwan said, "Kim Jongmin was busy getting scammed," and when asked if Kim Jongmin had told his wife about the scams before marriage, Kim Jongmin replied, "I couldn't tell her everything," to which Heo Kyunghwan laughed, "It's better you didn't. If you'd told her everything, could you have gotten married?" Kim Jongmin said, "It probably wouldn't have been easy," showing clear self-awareness.
When suddenly asked whether he had shared his assets with his wife, Kim Jongmin frankly said, "I've been in the entertainment industry a long time, and my wife asked, 'Where did you hide it?'" He said the scale of the assets was such that he couldn't have hidden them. Kim Jongmin said, "Even to me, after working hard for about 30 years, I wondered if this was right," making a self-deprecating joke.
Meanwhile, as Kim Jongmin is preparing for a second child, Yang Chi-seung advised, "You need to manage your lower body if you want to have a child," and, learning that Kim Jongmin wants both a daughter and a son, Yang Chi-seung said, "That's how I am," and taught him exercises. Kim Jongmin then began lower-body workouts and even continued with grueling butt workouts.
