The group Big Bang thrilled music fans around the world by unexpectedly announcing the long-awaited 20th anniversary world tour to be held in August on the Coachella stage in the United States.
Big Bang once again took the Outdoor Theatre stage and successfully completed the second week of performances at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (Coachella) held in Indio, California, on the 19th (local time).
Riding the explosive energy from week one, Big Bang opened with "BANG BANG BANG" and launched into a parade of mega-hits covering their 20-year history, including "FANTASTIC BABY," "Mansangsin" (wide-awake), "LOSER," "Haru Haru," and "Lies." The setlist, which also included Taeyang's "Ring-a-Ling-a," G-Dragon's "PO￦ER," the unit song "GOOD BOY," Daesung's trot stages "Handochouga" and "Look at me defections," heated up the desert night for about 60 minutes. The audience, filling the venue, responded to the majesty of the "K-pop legend" with enthusiastic cheers and group singing.
Above all, the highlight of the performance that night was the official announcement of the 20th anniversary plan that fans around the world had been eagerly waiting for. Toward the end of the show, G-Dragon took the mic and opened by saying, "This year is Big Bang's 20th anniversary. It's a new beginning. We're going to announce something special here at Coachella for the first time."
He then surprised everyone by announcing, "Big Bang's 20th anniversary world tour will begin in August. Don't miss it," turning the venue upside down. The identity of the all-time spoiler who had said during the week-one performance, "This is just the beginning. Something big is coming soon," was finally revealed.
The members' heartfelt remarks to fans on the occasion of their 20th anniversary were also moving. Taeyang, thanking fans watching in Korea and those attending locally, said, "It's Big Bang's 20th anniversary. Thank you for continuing to love us, waiting for us and cheering for us for such a long time," and added, "All we can do in return is repay you with good music and performances.
