It was an honest confession on 'Ask Us Anything Fortune Teller' where Lee Hoon stood at a crossroads over whether to continue as an actor or find a new path.
On the 20th broadcast of the KBS Joy entertainment show 'Ask Us Anything Fortune Teller', 30-year veteran actor Lee Hoon appeared and revealed the realistic concern that projects kept falling through and he has been in a hiatus for three years.
Lee Hoon, who turned 53 this year, cautiously voiced the concerns he feels as a middle-aged actor. Lee Hoon said, "A drama scheduled for 2024 was canceled during filming, and a drama that was to be shot in the United States in 2025 was indefinitely postponed due to various issues. This year's project was also indefinitely postponed due to production funding problems." He added, "Frustrated, I confessed to my manager that I was wondering whether I should continue as an actor, and my manager said, 'Let's go on Ask Us Anything Fortune Teller and ask,'" and he smiled wryly.
He also revealed that he recently went to Germany to pursue entry into Hollywood. Lee Hoon explained, "In 2022, I had the opportunity to audition in Hollywood and thankfully appeared in a production," adding, "It was a story about representatives of each country's killers gathering to assassinate the protagonist, and I played the Korean representative killer."
He went on to say, "They said they needed a sharp feel, so I lost 10kg for the role," which surprised viewers. But a drama director who saw that production said he had a unique charm and offered a new project, yet that too was ultimately canceled due to production funding issues. In another project he was cast as a gangster and bulked up by eating only chicken breast, but that project was also indefinitely postponed.
Seo Jang-hoon analyzed, "I've known Lee Hoon since I was young. He is a reliable person. The problem is he has enormous pride and is very stubborn." He advised, "Now you need to know how to let go according to your age." He added, "In the past, Lee Hoon would have waited for casting offers when there was talk of a project, but if it were me, I would actively campaign to secure the role I like," and "If you start looking for work yourself, people might hear that and come looking for you first."
Lee Hoon nodded at the two people's advice and pledged, "Watching the fairies (Lee Soo-keun) and Jang Hoon live so diligently, I felt what excuse do I have," and "I will live harder too."
