AKMU member Lee Suhyun, after losing 30kg, shared upbeat news, and attention has returned to the fact that she went through panic disorder and a slump during the process. Responses continued that it was not a simple diet success story but a time that lifted a broken spirit back up.
Recently Lee Suhyun resumed personal YouTube activities after about three years and began communicating with fans again. Returning with a bright appearance, she candidly spoke about the difficult time during the long hiatus.
Earlier she appeared on tvN You Quiz on the Block and recalled the slump, saying, "I went into my room and started living as a hikikomori." She went on, "All I did was play games and eat delivery food. I lived with the curtains closed. I wanted not to know whether it was night or day," which drew sympathy.
She said that particularly, stress-induced binge eating caused her weight to increase rapidly, and both her body and mind collapsed. "I think I binge ate every day. When I gained weight rapidly, it felt like my whole body was being torn," she said, adding, "I felt there was no better future for me." During this period she reportedly experienced social avoidance symptoms and panic disorder, making it difficult even to appear in front of people.
But Lee Suhyun got back up. She consistently took care of herself by combining exercise and diet control, and ultimately succeeded in losing nearly 30kg from her highest weight. She said, "I wanted to give up, but I didn't," and added, "From now on I want to develop the strength to maintain myself."
She also drew a clear line regarding suspicions raised about drug-assisted dieting. She frankly said, "I did not take Wegovy," and, "I managed it with exercise while resisting malatang and spicy rice cakes."
More than anything, what fans are happy about is her expression, not the numbers. Fans have continued to cheer, saying, "Thank you for really holding on," "Regaining mental health is worth more than weight loss," and "Lee Suhyun's blossoming has begun," in response to her much brighter face, full of vitality, and her smile in front of the camera.
Having gone through difficult times such as depression and panic disorder, Lee Suhyun has bloomed again. More than the result of losing 30kg, the bigger change may be that she now loves herself again.
