'TV Animal Farm' highlighted a poignant farewell between a grandmother and her companion dog, turning living rooms into seas of tears.
On the morning of the 19th at 9:30 a.m., SBS's 'TV Animal Farm' aired the heartbreaking story of 87-year-old grandmother Kim Myung-ja and her dog Kong-i, who had been together for 12 years. The broadcast recorded a peak rating of 4.7% (Nielsen Korea, Seoul metropolitan households), ranking first in its time slot and drawing strong empathy from viewers.
To the grandmother who had lived alone for 32 years, Kong-i was more than just a pet. As the only pillar who filled the void left by family members who had passed away earlier, the grandmother prioritized Kong-i's health above all even when she had difficulty moving, pouring out deep affection. Even if her own meals were simple, she made sure Kong-i's meals were well prepared. From supplements for eye and joint health to lovingly prepared homemade snacks, the grandmother's love for Kong-i was evident even at the table.
But as the grandmother's health deteriorated and urgent detailed tests and treatment became necessary, the moment of parting came for the two who had not been apart even for a day in 12 years.
As if sensing that she would be going to a nursing home, the grandmother left a heartfelt request for Kong-i with the production team. In particular, a note meticulously listing Kong-i's habits and characteristics for whoever would care for him later moved viewers to tears. Sensing an unusual atmosphere, Kong-i tried to follow the grandmother with affectionate behavior, and after the grandmother left the house, Kong-i waiting and guarding the front gate left a poignant aftertaste.
Later, Kong-i underwent tests before being moved to a shelter and a tumor was discovered, leading to surgery. Although the difficult process of tail amputation was involved, all four tumors were successfully removed and Kong-i was able to recover his health. The grandmother, who received a doll resembling Kong-i at the nursing home and cried, conveyed her sincere wish that Kong-i be happy in his new place, adding to the poignancy.<
