'Secret Audit' director revealed a solid lineup of special appearances.
On the 20th afternoon, tvN's new Saturday-Sunday drama 'Secret Audit' held a production press conference that was streamed online. The production press conference was attended by director Lee Suhyun, actors Shin Hae-sun, Gong Myoung, Kim Jae Wook and Hong Hwa-yeon, who spoke about the show.
'Secret Audit' is a tense close-contact audit romance between charismatic audit chief Ju In-a (Shin Hae-sun), who keeps a secret, and No Gi-joon (Gong Myoung), the audit office ace who was demoted to the position in charge of detecting sudden cases of workplace misconduct (PM).
That day director Lee Suhyun spoke about the casting behind the scenes, saying, "After I was cast I received a lot of congratulations. I think that meant I had achieved it well. When I met the character In-a in the script, I was certain that actress Shin Hae-sun's accurate comedy acting and, for melodrama, that she could deliver In-a at more than 200%. When she said she would play In-a I thought I could ride on her. Actually, in the early parts there are talks about In-a being a tough person, but she has many lovely sides. She is a woman with strong leadership but not someone who speaks directly about her pain. However, such things are expressed through In-a's facial expressions and straightforwardness, and Ji-gyun understands that, so gradually it seeps in; I thought only actress Shin Hae-sun could perform such acting, so I felt I could ride on her," she said.
Regarding Gong Myoung, who plays No Gi-joon, she said, "Ji-gyun is talked about as an ace in the early parts, but anyway there is something burning in him to want to take revenge on In-a, and I wanted that to look lovable and cute. Gong Myoung's good-natured image and his actual kindness and loveliness made Ji-gyun meet Gong Myoung? That amplified things. When the two's melodrama picks up in the later episodes, the chemistry turned out to be stronger than expected. We called it adult melodrama among ourselves; it's hard to explain that way, but because of Gong Myoung's charm, Ji-gyun could show more directness and, as a younger man, display masculinity while also expressing that loveliness well," she explained.
About Kim Jae Wook's portrayal of Jeon Jae-yeol, she said, "Jae-yeol was my first choice from when I read the script. I strongly wanted him and appealed for it. The weight his presence carries would be hard to express no matter how much I tried if the actor didn't possess it, so he gave the impression of perfect beauty and wealth. Because we wanted to be greedy in the later parts, Jae-yeol becomes more entangled in relationships with In-a and A-jung as the story progresses, and senior actor Kim Jae Wook portrayed those aspects, making the character much more three-dimensional. I thought much of that came alive because of the actor's unique charm. We received a lot of help," she said.
Finally, about Hong Hwa-yeon as Park A-jung, she expressed satisfaction, saying, "A-jung has a nickname that 'Secretary Park's beauty is a company welfare.' No matter how much I try, if the actress's beauty doesn't follow, it won't work. I had recently enjoyed the works that Hong Hwa-yeon had appeared in. In fact, she is an actor who can perform deeply relative to her years and experience, and A-jung's role inevitably requires deeper acting as it moves into the later parts. Emotionally it becomes deep. Although she was veiled in the early parts, because of that Hong Hwa-yeon portraying A-jung made her much deeper. Her beauty is obvious. I think visual appeal is important in romance, so I told the actors we couldn't give up the two-shot. I was very satisfied with those aspects and grateful," she said.
The special-appearance lineup that appears in each episode also raised expectations. Director Lee Suhyun said, "Since it's an episodic series, we put a lot of care into the special appearances. We asked many people, and because the writer wrote the episodes interestingly, the actors gladly and happily participated. You will know which episodes they appear in when you watch, but senior actor Lee Jung-eun appears, senior Park Haseon, actor Pyo Ye-jin, actor Shin Hyun-soo. If I name everyone it would be too many, but these actors digest their roles perfectly in the right episodes and helped us a lot. I think the enjoyment of watching those episodes will be great. Not only the leads and the three teams' characters, but I want to take this opportunity to say thank you," she said.
Meanwhile, 'Secret Audit' airs its first episode on the 25th at 9:10 p.m.
