After 2 years and 3 months of team activities, the group EVNNE, reorganized as a five-member group, returned with a powerful image, marking the start of their second chapter.
EVNNE (Keita, Park Hanbin, Lee Jung Hyun, Moon Junghyun, Park Jihu) on the 20th at 6 p.m. released the full audio of their first single album (1st Single Album) "Backtalk" and the music video for the title track of the same name through various online music sites.
EVNNE is a group formed on season 1 of the Mnet audition program "Boys Planet," which aired with popularity in 2023. During 2 years and 3 months of activity, they released a variety of songs such as "How Can I Do," "HOT MESS," "Badder Love," "UGLY," and "TROUBLE," highlighting their presence.
Starting from the Seoul fan meeting held in January, EVNNE reorganized its members into a five-member lineup of Keita, Park Hanbin, Lee Jung Hyun, Moon Junghyun, and Park Jihu, returning with an even more powerful image and announcing a new beginning.
This album began from the members' honest attitude of facing their imperfect selves head-on rather than acting perfect. They took "self-dis" — exposing their weaknesses and stains without hiding them — as the album's core theme and unabashedly delivered unpretentious sincerity. The concept photos also deeply capture the attitude of confronting oneself through two contrasting versions: "DRILL," which sharply probes weaknesses, and "PATINA," which reveals repeated challenges and the accumulation of time.
The new album title track "Backtalk" is a digicore song that modernly reinterprets genre boundaries with arpeggio synths, distorted 808s, and trap rhythms. All members co-wrote the lyrics, conveying a message of forging their own path undeterred by others' gaze and criticism.
The rough sound that seems to scrape the eardrums and the lyrics "there is no giving up, keep ramming, Pave a new way" contain the message of "Backtalk," to create my own path even if I collide within an imperfect world. EVNNE pours out intense and rough energy through addictive hooks and dynamic development.
The music video and performance visually and perfectly realized the song's dynamic development. The music video, set against the uncontrolled vast world called EVNNE's PLANET, shows a stark contrast between an open abandoned quarry and cold, closed spaces. Powerful group choreography performed on car frames reduced to bare bones as if dismantling past rules, and the members' provocative attitude as they advance while setting off purple smoke grenades maximize the song's tension and catharsis.
The rough sound that seems to scrape the eardrums and the lyrics "there is no giving up, keep ramming, Pave a new way" contain the message of "Backtalk," to create my own path even if I collide within an imperfect world.
The album includes the title track of the same name and "STAY." It is an electroclash song with hyperpop elements that conveys a proactive message to believe in each other and create change in our own way rather than waiting for a miracle, offering a glimpse of EVNNE's new musical direction. As can be seen from the fact that all members poured their efforts into showing a firmer and more refined team color ahead of the five-member reorganization, both songs credit Keita, Park Hanbin, Lee Jung Hyun, Moon Junghyun, and Park Jihu as co-lyricists.
As the first step signaling the start of an official group beyond a project group, EVNNE has sharpened their blades. Expectations are high for the stories they will unfold as they grow another step as a hip-hop group.
