A man who spent a warped childhood under his biological father's violence searches for the stepmother who was the only one to embrace him, delivering a poignant emotion to living rooms.
On the 20th at 10 p.m., Channel A's Detectives' Trade Secrets segment "Detective 24 Hours" will air the heartrending story of a client who wants to meet the stepmother he was separated from 27 years ago to express his gratitude. The client, who lost his biological mother to cancer when he was in the first grade of elementary school, welcomed a stepmother just one year later and developed deep defiance. In particular, his father, who stood 183 cm and weighed 100 kg, inflicted harsh corporal punishment with his fists and a club, and the client recalls the pain at the time saying, "I was beaten so often that I nearly lost consciousness. I was scared just to see my father's shadow."
The client's heart opened thanks to an accident he experienced in the first year of high school. When he badly cut his palm with a box cutter, the sight of his stepmother holding his hand and crying while pleading with the doctor, "Please save my child's finger," opened the tightly closed door of his heart. Later, on the day he entered university after concentrating on his studies, his stepmother, who had difficulty walking, struggled to come and, breathless and tearful, pressed a purse of money into his hand, deepening the affection. But after he enlisted in the military, the happiness of his first leave was short-lived when his father delivered the shocking news that "the stepmother ran away with 20 million won," and after that day she disappeared for 27 years. Questions are growing about what happened to the stepmother at the time and whether the reunion the client so longed for can take place when the broadcast airs.
Meanwhile, the broadcast that day features pro baseball legend Jung Geun-woo, known as the "devil's second baseman," joining as a one-day detective and showing his skills. A holder of three Golden Glove awards and other dazzling records, he displays his lively talk even after retirement by sharing his busy recent life. Currently appearing on "Fireball Baseball 2" with manager Kim Sung-keun, Jung Geun-woo admits, "It's an important time when I have to practice and take tryouts, and I could get scolded by the manager for coming out here," revealing his tension. He adds, "I trained for two hours yesterday too. It was better when I was a player," and surprises the scene by showing his callused hands.
