Comedian Shim Jin-hwa of 'Sokpulisho Dongchimi' candidly and refreshingly opened up about her feelings on infertility.
On the 18th broadcast of MBN 'Sokpulisho Dongchimi' (hereinafter 'Dongchimi'), under the theme 'Mothers are women too,' obstetrician-gynecologist Park Hye-seong, announcer Oh Young-sil, actress Oh Mi-hee and comedian Shim Jin-hwa appeared.
Lee Hyun-i said, "Specialist Park Hye-seong talked about how couples' relationships cool after infertility procedures, how to prevent a husband's affair, and things like that. She is very popular among middle-aged women," introducing specialist Park Hye-seong. Specialist Park Hye-seong said, "Men think they are the boss and believe it is okay to have an affair," adding, "I told my husband, 'If you have an affair, I'll cut you off,'" showing a resolute stance. Of course, Park added with a laugh that she meant "cutting off the relationship."
Oh Young-sil recalled her younger self in her mid-20s, when marriage was immediately followed by childbirth. Oh Young-sil said, "After graduating from university I discovered the pleasures of drinking and dancing, and after joining as an announcer I enjoyed drinking and dancing again, but my boyfriend proposed marriage, so I married young and became pregnant right away. I had no education, and even when my mother went to give birth she told me to wear makeup," she said.
Oh Young-sil actually went to the hospital where her husband was working as a resident to give birth, and she couldn't scream during labor for fear of embarrassing her husband; she said she was shocked to learn the unvarnished reality of childbirth. The reality experienced in the mid-20s when one knows nothing was truly a frightening thing.
She also suffered from postpartum depression. Oh Young-sil said, "I cried because I was gloomy after giving birth, and my husband told me, 'A certain doctor's wife stands on the balcony from the time she leaves for work until she returns,' saying I'm relatively okay, and only then did I realize my husband knew everything about me. I felt very hurt," expressing her disappointment with her husband.
As the female guests exchanged childbirth experiences, Shim Jin-hwa brought up infertility. Shim Jin-hwa, who married Kim Won-hyo in 2011 and had shown a deep desire for pregnancy, said last year on her social media that she no longer worries about not having a child.
Before becoming a comedian, Shim Jin-hwa tried every part-time job to support her family, and later rose to fame but experienced pain such as losing colleagues in accidents. Nevertheless, because Shim Jin-hwa was a kind and friendly friend to many entertainers, colleagues and seniors gave generous support to the Shim Jin-hwa and Kim Won-hyo couple.
Shim Jin-hwa calmly said about infertility, "I wondered if it was the will of heaven." She said, "When we went to the obstetrics and gynecology clinic, Kim Won-hyo actually had no issues with sperm count; he was even called a sperm king. I had no problems either," and said that now both sets of parents tell them, "Take it easy and rest." Hearing this, father of many children Lee Dong-yeop said, "Park Seul-gi touched my nose and had two babies," telling her to touch his nose, and Shim Jin-hwa, smiling awkwardly as if to ask, "Can I have one now?" touched Lee Dong-yeop's nose.
