Three years have passed since the death of the late Choo Sung Hoon's father, the late Choo Gyei.
Choo Gyei suddenly died of a heart attack while playing golf on Apr. 18, 2023. He was 73.
At the time, Choo Sung Hoon's agency, Bonboo ENT, said, "Choo Gyei, the father of Choo Sung Hoon, passed away today at the age of 73. Choo Sung Hoon returned to Japan as soon as he received the news in Korea."
They added, "The funeral will be held quietly with family and relatives. We extend deep condolences and sympathy to Choo Sung Hoon and his family."
The deceased was a former judo athlete like his son Choo Sung Hoon and appeared with his family on various broadcasts, receiving love from domestic fans. In particular, he struck a chord with many by alternating between a strict father to his family and a tender grandfather who melted before his granddaughter.
Grieving the loss of his father, Choo Sung Hoon opened up on his personal channel, "My father was my superhero," and said, "My father suddenly passed away today. There were still so many things I wanted to talk about and so much he needed to teach me. We never even had a drink together. There are so many things I wanted to do together. Now that things are gradually going well, I wanted to travel together and eat lots of delicious food."
He added, "From now on, when a time comes in life to make an important choice as my father taught me, choose the hard road! That is the way to succeed! I will keep those words in my heart and live diligently. When we meet again, I want to play the golf my father liked and drink together."
Choo Sung Hoon's wife, Yano Shiho, also mourned on social media, "The whole family went to bid farewell to father. I can never forget the warmth and kindness with which he always embraced us. I want to carry the memories of the time we lived together in my heart and move forward."
