Group Shinhwa member and actor Kim Dong Wan has repeatedly attracted attention with remarks that provoke controversy and sympathy.
Kim Dong Wan's personal social media has recently become a hot topic. While it angers many, it also draws sympathy with words that have earned both criticism and support.
It began on Feb. with a remark on 'legalizing prostitution.' At the time Kim Dong Wan argued for the need to legalize prostitution, saying, "In trying to eliminate entertainment districts, the whole country is becoming an entertainment district. Looking at entertainment districts in front of churches, in front of schools, and in front of police substations, one cannot help but have questions," and "We should acknowledge and manage it. Now that single-person households are increasing, we should not let this pass with the logic of 'just cover it up.'"
After the post became a hot topic, Kim Dong Wan switched his SNS account to private, then dismissed concerns, saying, "I have been receiving a lot of calls from elders and seniors in the last day or two, so I am leaving this note. Don't worry too much. I said what I wanted to say, and reporters are just doing their jobs." Even so, as criticism of his remark on 'legalizing prostitution' continued, Kim Dong Wan explained, "What I am concerned about is the influx of minors, lack of disease control, and exploitation within illegal structures," but the criticism did not stop.
Just a month later on the 21st, Kim Dong Wan shared MC Dingdong's SNS account on his personal social media with the post, "Anyone who wants to cheer for Dingdong for no reason?" Recently MC Dingdong had sparked controversy for grabbing female BJ A's hair and assaulting her during an internet live broadcast known as an 'excel broadcast.'
But Kim Dong Wan suddenly expressed support for MC Dingdong. As criticism of Kim Dong Wan on social media continued, he said, "It was an expression that failed to fully consider the situation. I will delete the post."
Kim Dong Wan, who had faced strong criticism, also drew attention with posts that elicited sympathy. On the 15th Kim Dong Wan said, "Comedian Lee Suji's kindergarten teacher content may simply have exposed the contradiction of expecting good education while not respecting educators."
Kim Dong Wan referred to Lee Suji's kindergarten teacher content. Through her YouTube content, Lee Suji, portraying kindergarten teacher Lee Min Ji, showed preparing to greet children from 4 a.m. and realistically portrayed being unable to respond effectively to parents' unreasonable demands, earning wide sympathy.
Kim Dong Wan said, "But it seems I offended more people than I thought. The very word discipline is becoming increasingly delicate, and the field has become increasingly constrained."
He went on, "As small social experiences like sports days, picnics and school trips disappear or shrink, the relationships and conflicts that children should learn are pushed outside. What they should experience with less harm within the shelter of educators ultimately faces a rougher society unprepared."
He added, "The greatest harm will be borne by the children. Unless we preserve the authority of educators, the necessary education and educators may gradually disappear." So far Kim Dong Wan has faced much criticism, but this time he is gaining sympathy.
