In 'Curious Story Y,' suspect Mr. Lee, who assaulted and caused the death of the late director Kim Chang-min, who had a son with severe developmental disabilities, has spoken out.
On the 17th episode of SBS 'Curious Story Y,' the case of the late director Kim Chang-min, who died from a collective assault, was reexamined, and an interview with suspect Mr. Lee was featured.
The incident began during an ordinary meal. Asking the noisy group in the restaurant to "be quiet" escalated into an argument and led to indiscriminate violence. A witness who saw the scene at the time said, "The baby was taken away by his father, so he peed twice here. That child must have been anxious," describing the extreme terror the disabled son who witnessed his father's crisis must have felt.
Kim, who was rushed to the hospital, was in a horrific condition. His face was covered with bruises, and there was blood pooled in his ear. A medical school professor analyzed, "Bleeding from the ear means he was hit and fell, striking the ground. When the ear area receives a severe impact, the bone can break and blood can come out." He added that "the damage was so severe that he was in a state almost equivalent to brain death, to the point that surgery could not even be performed," explaining that the injuries Kim suffered were fatal.
In this situation, suspect Mr. Lee began his interview by saying, "I really want to offer a profound apology to the deceased director Kim Chang-min, who was the victim." But after a brief apology, Mr. Lee appealed his own sense of injustice and tried to reverse the situation.
Mr. Lee claimed, "From my standpoint, circumstances are increasingly diverging from the facts," and said, "When you go to a bar you can drink and be loud. Director Kim Chang-min, looking at us, swore and said, 'You b*****s, shut up and eat,' and as soon as he said that I immediately bowed my head and said, 'I'm sorry.'"
However, Lee's companion testified that, contrary to the claim that he was hit only three times, "he was assaulted multiple times," and made a completely different claim that the assault at the time was "very severe."
