Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin (68) revealed that after the tragic on-set shooting death during the filming of the movie 'Rust', he was threatened with lawsuits by the production team and was forced to return to the set, sparking controversy.
Alec Baldwin recently appeared on The Hollywood Reporter podcast Awards Chatter and made a startling revelation about the painful feelings he endured while having to finish filming after the accident.
In 2021, Baldwin experienced the tragic accident in which a prop gun discharged during a rehearsal for Rust, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. He was later acquitted of involuntary manslaughter charges in 2024, and the film was released in May 2025 with a tribute to the deceased.
On the broadcast, Baldwin made clear that his return to the set at the time was by no means a voluntary choice. He said, "As part of the agreement with Hutchins' husband, I had to go back to Montana to finish the film," he began.
He went on to recall the pressure at the time: "I was really not well. But I had to go to Montana, get on a horse and finish the movie. If I didn't, they were prepared to file an 'enormous lawsuit' against me," he recalled.
Ultimately, it appears he had to return to the set despite being physically and mentally devastated in order to comply with the production company's legal pressure and the terms of the settlement with the bereaved family.
Baldwin also pleaded that the incident completely destroyed his life. He said, "It feels like at least 10 years of my life have been erased by this incident. It affected me financially, career-wise, my wife and children, and my health," he said in anguish.
He confessed that he suffered from severe depression and lethargy after the accident. He said, "Every nerve in my body was broken spiritually, financially and workwise," "Immediately after the prosecutors announced they would bring the charges again, I was unable to do anything and had to take naps every day for a year," and "I even prayed while lying in bed, 'God, please let me not wake up tomorrow,'" among other confessions that evoked sympathy.
Alec Baldwin now lives as a father of many children, with seven children from his wife Hilaria and an eldest daughter from his ex-wife Kim Basinger. He said he now prefers staying close to his family over a glamorous Hollywood life.
He strongly hinted at retirement from show business, saying, "I don't want to work anymore. I really don't. I want to retire now and stay home with my children." He explained that after taking a long break from work following the accident, he became accustomed to life with his family, and that is the only peace he currently wants.
