Performing artist Poppin Hyun-jun underwent surgery for a gastric adenoma and is currently recovering after being discharged.
On the 15th, Poppin Hyun-jun uploaded several photos to his social account with the hashtag #PoppinHyun-jun #GetWellSoon.
The released photos drew attention as they showed Poppin Hyun-jun hospitalized in a ward and his wife Park Ae-Ri by his side caring for him. Along with this, Poppin Hyun-jun also uploaded a screenshot of a post about the symptoms of a "gastric adenoma."
The post contained the content, "A gastric adenoma is a benign tumor that forms on the gastric mucosa, but if left alone it is a 'precancerous lesion' with a very high possibility of progressing to cancer," indirectly conveying that Poppin Hyun-jun was hospitalized because of a gastric adenoma.
Meanwhile, on the 16th, Poppin Hyun-jun's wife Park Ae-Ri told OSEN by phone that "Hyun-jun had a health checkup previously, and when they performed a biopsy they found an adenoma. At that time we were told the adenoma is the stage just before cancer, so he went to the National Cancer Center to have the tissue removed surgically," conveying Poppin Hyun-jun's current condition.
She said, "Usually polyps come and go, but adenomas can become cancer if left alone, so they said it had to be removed. They hurried to set a date, completed the surgery, and said recovery is important, so they even confirmed by endoscopy that the surgery was successful."
She continued, "In the case of adenomas, once they occur they can continue to recur, and especially in Hyun-jun's case his parents have a past history of cancer, so we were told to be careful," adding, "His mother was very worried, but fortunately the surgery finished well and now we are at the stage of watching to see if it heals properly. He has been discharged and is focusing on recovering his health," informing that he finished surgery safely and is recovering.
She also emphasized the importance of health care, saying, "Actually, Hyun-jun had been very worried and stressed for some time and said his stomach hurt and his chest felt burning. We didn't know then, but when he had a health checkup the adenoma finding came up. He said he was healthy and strong, but there were signs. I hope everyone takes good care of their health."
Poppin Hyun-jun has also been updating his condition after the surgery via social media. In response to the outpouring of concern and support from those around him, he replied playfully with comments such as "I'm not dead yet," "I'll be alive until you come," and "Let's stay healthy." Especially notable, even while fighting illness he shared images of dance practice, showing his unchanged passion for dance.
Meanwhile, last year Poppin Hyun-jun resigned from his professorship in the practical dance department at Baekseok College of Arts. Regarding the flood of allegations at the time, Poppin Hyun-jun bowed his head and said, "I sincerely apologize to the students.
