'You Quiz on the Block' Ahn Jung-hwan revealed the reason he decided to donate to youth.
On the 15th, tvN 'You Quiz on the Block' (hereinafter 'You Quiz') aired and featured Ahn Jung-hwan, the eternal legend of Korean soccer.
That day Yu Jae-seok admired, "If you look at recent articles, he is not stingy at all. He donated all of his YouTube revenue, about 430 million won. Amazing. Very generous."
Recently Ahn Jung-hwan drew attention by donating 436 million won of his YouTube revenue. He donated to struggling grandparent-headed households and youth aspiring athletes. Ahn Jung-hwan humbly replied, "My older brother did more," but Yu Jae-seok praised him, saying, "It's not an easy thing."
Ahn Jung-hwan explained that he began donating and has continued to do so, saying, "There are many children in difficult circumstances during their teenage years. These days it costs a lot of money to play soccer. I also wasn't well off when I was young, so I thought it would be good to help."
Meanwhile, Ahn Jung-hwan drew attention by saying he started playing soccer because he was hungry. He said, "At that time our school had only one athletics soccer team. After practice they gave bread and milk. I played because I wanted to eat that. I was a bit fast in races at events like sports day. I went to fill my hunger."
Above all, Ahn Jung-hwan revealed, "The grandmother who raised me opposed it. She said, 'Why do you run, you'll be hungry. You already don't eat well.' We lived in a shantytown on the first Hangang Bridge. There wasn't much to eat. The neighborhood kids were the same; it was a difficult time. In the end the purpose was bread and milk. I didn't really understand soccer then."
He said he tried every part-time job while playing soccer, saying, "When subway line 5 first opened I went down to the subway to do odd jobs. I had no skills so I was a laborer," and added, "I also worked at a traditional liquor bar."
Playing soccer while juggling part-time work, Ahn Jung-hwan became a topic for his good looks, but he was also known as a player who worked very hard. When Yu Jae-seok asked, "Did you really work hard?" Ahn Jung-hwan said, "The question is somewhat suspicious."
Yu Jae-seok said, "Maybe it was a prejudice of some kind. Because he looked delicate, I thought he didn't work hard and was slick. Even then people who wore their hair long and didn't train hard but cared about their looks and missed goals would say, 'See, I knew he'd be like that.'" he said frankly, drawing laughter.
Ahn Jung-hwan said, "I didn't want to show off that I had to work so hard," and added, "I practiced a lot. I went out at dawn to climb hills, practiced dribbling and skills with a tennis ball. I felt exhilaration when I broke through bigger opponents."
He added, "If I didn't master the skills I wouldn't survive. I tried to survive technically. There is something called the 'Annu turn.' What I practiced in high school came out in the pros. If you don't build it up then it won't come out. If you go to the pro league and do it then it's late. You have to make it a habit in your body over a long time."
