Actor Lim Soojung is once again proving her mettle with her ability to inhabit characters.
Currently Lim Soojung is starring as Kim Sean, the wife of Ki Soo-jong (Ha Jung-woo), in the tvN weekend drama Mad Concrete Dreams (hereinafter Mad Concrete Dreams). Thought to be an ordinary housewife, she makes the story more compelling with a "reversal charisma" that reveals her true nature at moments of crisis.
Looking at Lim Soojung's recent activities, which traverse screen, OTT and home television regardless of genre or character, she displayed a "polar" charm on screen.
In the film "Spiderweb," Lim Soojung played veteran 1970s actress Lee Min-ja and showcased seasoned acting skills. She naturally depicted the process of transforming from a submissive figure into a self-determined character. In contrast, in the film "Single in Seoul," she played Hyun-jin, an editorial director at a publishing house, radiating a lovably clumsy charm and, as a "rom-com queen" completely different from her previous work, excited audiences.
Her startling "femme fatale" transformation stood out above all. The transformation in the Disney+ original series Low Life opened a new heyday for Lim Soojung. Playing Yang Jung-sook, full of ambition, Lim Soojung vividly portrayed endless desire hidden behind an overwhelming aura and refined speech. Even though it was her first turn as a villain since debut, she proved an exceptional presence and delivered a powerful thrill to viewers.
Her challenges in genre works continue. In the currently airing Mad Concrete Dreams, Lim Soojung has completed the layered character Kim Sean, who evolves from a quiet supporter to someone who will not hesitate to commit wrongdoing to protect her family, through precise emotional acting. In particular, the tense teamwork with Ha Jung-woo raises the drama's tension to its peak. In the whirlwind developments of each episode, it becomes intriguing to wonder what the final page of "Kim Sean" she will show will look like.<
