Chef Raymon Kim mourned the 12th anniversary of the Sewol ferry disaster.
On the 16th, Raymon Kim uploaded a photo to his social account saying, "Twelve years have passed helplessly."
The photo showed a yellow ribbon and bracelet in remembrance of the Sewol ferry disaster. Earlier, on April 16, 2014, the ferry Sewol, en route from Incheon to Jeju, sank off the coast near Jindo, resulting in a large-scale disaster in which 304 passengers were killed or went missing.
Raymon Kim said, "During those 12 years, accidents caused by human error continued to occur, including the Jeju Air crash, the Sejong hospital fire, the deadly crowd crush in the nightlife district of Itaewon, and the Osong underpass disaster. I'm afraid, it's painful, and I'm angry," expressing his heavy heart.
He continued, "So this is not a matter of left-right ideology or politics but from the heart of a parent, from the heart of a human being. Above all, that day, April 16, 2014, confirmed the existence of my angel, but others' angels went to the sky that day, so I will remember and not forget going forward," saying he would continue the memorial.
Meanwhile, Korean-Canadian chef Raymon Kim married actress Kim Ji-woo in 2013 and welcomed his first daughter in December of the following year. Since the Sewol ferry disaster occurred in the year his daughter was born, Raymon Kim reiterated, "#WeWillNotForget #WeWillRemember."
