In 'Dad and I,' trot singer Her Chanmi revealed the behind-the-scenes story of rising to "sun (善)" with the perseverance of falling seven times and getting up eight times.
On the 15th broadcast of TV CHOSUN 'Dad and I,' Her Chanmi, the 'sun (善)' of 'Miss Trot 4,' appeared. In her 17th year since debut, she introduced herself as "a trot tumbler who gets up after seven falls and eight setbacks." Her Chanmi, who debuted as part of idol group Five Dolls in 2011, all said "the basics are solid."
Her Chanmi was known to have been an SM trainee at age 14. She was known to have been in the debut lineup for Girls' Generation. Her Chanmi trained as a trainee for six years. But despite enduring for a long time, a debut opportunity did not come. Her father continued to wait for his daughter's debut. Finally, in 2010 Her Chanmi debuted with 'Coed School,' debuting as a 10-member mixed-gender idol group after six years. However, activities were halted after just two months of debut. Afterwards, Her Chanmi resumed activities in 2011 with Five Dolls, but because her trainee period was considered short, she was demoted back to trainee status and withdrew after one year.
Thus, during six years of trainee life, she had only about 1 year and 2 months of idol activity. She also participated in the 2016 idol audition Produce 101, but was embroiled in a controversy over malicious editing called 'gapjil.' And in 2017, Her Chanmi also appeared on the idol audition 'Mix Nine.' But she did not find the spotlight. At that time on social media she wrote complicated feelings such as "If I pray for patience, what will God give me — courage?"
Her Chanmi tearfully said, "My parents had a hard time beside me," and it was shocking when her parents said, "Chanmi, in those harsh hardships and adversities, several times you were shattered and tried to give up your life because of malicious comments." Her father said, "Still, our daughter who suffered so much said, 'I must succeed for mom and dad,' so I told her to fulfill her dream," he said. Thus, the family silently supported and encouraged Her Chanmi from behind.
After that, Her Chanmi changed genres and challenged 'Miss Trot 2.' Because she was a rookie in trot, she faced adversity once again. Unfortunately, she was eliminated just short of the top six. Opportunities that seemed within reach did not materialize. She was eliminated in the semifinals of other auditions as well. That is why she could not give up on her dream even more. Her 16-year singing career had many twists and turns.
Refusing to give up, Her Chanmi challenged 'Miss Trot 4' again. She exploded with energy in a confident performance and unleashed the inner strength she honed with tumbler-like perseverance. After a long dark period, she seized the 'sun (善)' of 'Miss Trot 4.' Seeing this, Jun Hyun-moo said, "She really is a trot tumbler; I didn't know she had challenged so many times," and Han Hye-jin also cheered, "Only good things will happen from now on."
Her Chanmi said, "Parents, stop crying; I will only give you reasons to smile from now on." She added, "I wish I could have given the Miss Trot 4 grand prize and the first-place prize to my parents," expressing regret, but said, "I am satisfied with 'sun' for myself, and I am sorry to my parents." In response, her mother said, "Behind the sadness, I suddenly thought, my daughter has become a 'sun' who exerts a 'benevolent influence,'" which moved people. Showing tears, Her Chanmi promised her parents, "I will work hard to earn money and give you as much as the winner's prize."
