Seoul COEX Megabox turned into a "horror experience" for a day. The cast of the film "Salmokji" and director Lee Sang-min appeared in ghost makeup at a stage greeting to fulfill a promised pledge.
At the surprise stage greeting held on the 15th, the actors transformed into a variety of characters and surprised the audience. Kim Hyeyoon and Jang Da-a appeared wearing bloodstained dresses, leaving a strong first impression, and Kim Jun Han transformed into corporal Ugyo-sik in the film, Lee Jong-won into Count Dracula. Yoon Jae-chan appeared as a jiangshi, director Lee Sang-min as a maiden ghost with long hair hanging down, Oh Dong-min as the Chucky doll, and Kim Young-seong as Frankenstein, filling the venue with laughter and cheers.
The event that day was held to fulfill a promise to meet the audience in ghost makeup if "Salmokji" passed its breakeven point. The cast said, "This result was possible thanks to the audience," expressing gratitude for the box office, and they showed active fan service by going around the screening room and high-fiving each audience member.
The speed of "Salmokji"'s success is also notable. It passed 800,000 viewers on the seventh day after release, surpassing its breakeven point, and as of the 14th its cumulative audience was 813,256. Since its release it has held the box office No. 1 spot for six consecutive days, maintaining its upward trend.
The film is a horror story about a filming crew that, after an unexplained figure is captured on Road View, goes to a reservoir for reshoots and encounters a presence in the black, deep water. Its setting grounded in reality and tense development have driven audience word of mouth.
At an earlier press event, the actors revealed expectations for the film's success with various pledges. Kim Hyeyoon proposed horror content through a live broadcast, Lee Jong-won promised to visit the actual filming location to prove it, Yoon Jae-chan said, "I will put on ghost makeup and give the audience a surprise greeting," and Jang Da-a likewise previewed an event, saying, "The people we should be most grateful to are the audience."
