Comedian Lee Guk-ju said there were times during her peak that she did not receive payment.

Lee Guk-ju said, "I passed the Galgali troupe audition and then passed the MBC comedian exam. For about two to three years after debut I was quiet, and among my peers I was the last to be on air. Because I stood out too much, there was nowhere to use me." she said, "At that time we did a parody of 'We Got Married' called 'We also got married' and did a Seo In Young parody."
She continued, "After that I moved to 'Comedy Big League' and was always last. I felt intimidated then, but I know my place well. When comedians are last there, their mentality breaks. I told my senior, 'I thought I would be last??' Once I felt at ease, I was able to do the gags I wanted and when doing 'loyalty' I placed first once every three weeks," she recalled.
But she said she was not happy. Lee Guk-ju said, "I was busy and could not enjoy it. I wish someone had said, 'You worked hard to get this far,' but I was always preparing to go down," adding, "I was comfortable filming reality shows alone."
Jang Young-ran asked, "Weren't you making a lot of money back then?" To that, Jang Young-ran said, "When you're really busy, many people try to take advantage. There were many breaks and there was money I didn't receive," she revealed.
But Lee Guk-ju said she experienced burnout at the end of December last year. She said, "I thought, 'I'm so happy.' I wasn't happy. I was pretending to be happy. I thought the breakdown meant I was happy, but because I wasn't happy I wondered how I should live."
