Performance artist and singer Poppin Hyun-jun said he underwent surgery to remove a gastric adenoma, and his wife Park Ae-Ri revealed his current health condition.
On the 16th, Park Ae-Ri told OSEN in a phone call, "Hyun-jun had a medical checkup recently and had a biopsy, which showed a finding of an adenoma. At that time we were told the adenoma was the stage just before cancer, so he went to the National Cancer Center to have the tissue removed in surgery," she said.
The day before, Poppin Hyun-jun posted several photos on social media along with the message, "Poppin Hyun-jun, please get well." In the released photos he appears hospitalized in a patient gown and it was revealed he was admitted because of a gastric adenoma. There were also photos capturing Park Ae-Ri nursing Poppin Hyun-jun by his side.
Poppin Hyun-jun shared the phrase, "A gastric adenoma is a benign tumor that forms on the stomach lining and, if left alone, is a precancerous lesion with a very high likelihood of progressing to cancer," causing concern about his health.
In response, Park Ae-Ri explained, "Polyps usually appear and then disappear, but adenomas can become cancerous if not handled properly, so they said they need to be removed. They told us it was important to hurry, set a date, complete the surgery and focus on recovery, so we even confirmed by endoscopy whether the surgery was successful."
She continued, "In the case of adenomas, once they occur they can keep recurring, and in particular with Hyun-jun they said we should be cautious because his parents have past histories of cancer," she said.
She added, "His mother was very worried in fact, but fortunately the surgery went well and now we are in the stage of watching whether it has healed properly. He has now been discharged and is focusing on regaining his health," reporting on his condition after the surgery.
Park Ae-Ri said, "Actually, Hyun-jun had been very worried and stressed for some time, saying his stomach hurt and he had heartburn. We didn't know then, but when he had a health checkup the adenoma finding came up. He insisted he was healthy and robust, but there were signs. I hope everyone takes good care of their health," she said.
Meanwhile, last year Poppin Hyun-jun resigned from his professorship after allegations arose that while teaching in the practical dance department at Baekseok Arts University he repeatedly used inappropriate language such as swearing at students.
At the time, Poppin Hyun-jun bowed his head and said, "As an educator I created a harsh atmosphere through inappropriate language and behavior, and I deeply reflect on causing feelings of sexual shame regardless of intent. I want to make it clear once again that there was never any impure intent."
