Comedian Lee Guk-ju mentioned being upset during her debut period because of her appearance.
On the 15th, a video titled "Why did Lee Guk-ju, who was doing well, suddenly move to a rented house in Japan?" was uploaded to the channel "A-grade Jang Young-ran."
Jang Young-ran asked Lee Guk-ju about her debut opportunity, and Lee Guk-ju said, "Galgali Theater was in Daehak-ro, and I went to audition. When I actually went to audition, they rejected me, saying I was off-putting. 'These days, comedians also need to be pretty and handsome,' they said. I found that so refreshing. It was the first time in my life someone openly told me I was off-putting," as she recounted the cultural shock she felt at the time.
She continued, "I thought about giving up on being a comedian, but just then a ticket for Gag Concert became available, so I went. During performances I used to dance as a hype person, and I went up there and won first place. The people from the Galgali troupe watched what I was doing on the monitor in the waiting room and said, 'Isn't that the kid who came back then?'" she said, adding, "I took a Bacchus drink, thinking the older guys in the Galgali troupe might recommend me. They asked if I was the one who danced then, and I said yes. They said they'd discuss it, and I eventually passed. I trained for six months and then passed MBC's open recruitment," she recalled.
