Singer Koo Jun-yeob is slowly regaining his smile about a year after losing the late Seohee-won (徐熙媛/쉬시위안), and his recent condition has drawn much support.
On the 9th, Taiwanese media ETtoday reported on Koo Jun-yeob's condition as conveyed by the late Seohee-won's younger brother, Seo Hee-je (徐熙/쉬시디).
That day Seo Hee-je attended a skincare product promotional event and gave an interview. When asked whether he planned to play big ball with his brother-in-law Koo Jun-yeob, he replied, "I tried to invite him, but these days he is focused on painting and isn't very interested."
According to Seo Hee-je, Koo Jun-yeob has been steadily immersed in art recently, and in particular has been concentrating on works about the late Seohee-won. Seo Hee-je said, "He always shows me photos of the paintings, and every time I see them I'm amazed. They look so much like my sister. He perfectly captured her gaze and even her soul," expressing admiration. He added that Koo Jun-yeob has completed more than 10 portraits depicting various aspects of the late Seohee-won.
Seo Hee-je said he felt it was a pity to keep the works only at home and decided to plan an exhibition. He said, "I hope everyone can see my sister's image through these paintings drawn by the brother-in-law who loved her the most," and added, "We also plan to sell works at affordable prices later to fans who loved my sister." He also added that he hopes "everyone can remember my sister forever."
In particular, Seo Hee-je expressed relief that Koo Jun-yeob has been able to find peace of mind through creative activity. However, he drew a line regarding plans for broadcasting appearances, saying there are none for the time being. He said, "I don't want to trouble my brother-in-law. I hope he can rest peacefully in his own world for now."
But Koo Jun-yeob's condition is gradually improving. Seo Hee-je said, "Our family has dinners together every week, and we've seen that his condition is gradually improving," and explained, "When we eat together, there's liveliness in his eyes. He takes jokes well and smiles. He's really much better."
Earlier, Koo Jun-yeob married the late Seohee-won in 2022. The two had a brief meeting in 1998 but parted ways due to opposition from their agency, and Seohee-won married Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei (汪小菲/왕샤오페이) in 2011 and had one son and one daughter. However, after conflict between the couple, they divorced in 2021, and upon hearing this, Koo Jun-yeob reconnected with Seohee-won and the two renewed their relationship.
After a long journey they reunited and, following their 2022 wedding, Koo Jun-yeob and the late Seohee-won registered their marriage in Korea and Taiwan and became an official married couple. Their movie-like love story drew much attention and congratulations at home and abroad, but last February the late Seohee-won died suddenly of acute pneumonia, shocking many. After her death, Koo Jun-yeob visited her grave and stayed at the site, and his emaciated appearance was spotted, eliciting sympathy. Amid this, reports emerged that Koo Jun-yeob is gradually finding stability by expressing memories of the late Seohee-won through paintings, drawing an outpouring of consolation and support for him.
