The original dating variety show 'Heart Signal' returned to viewers with season 5, and producer-director Park Cheol-hwan shared his thoughts after the first broadcast.
On the afternoon of the 15th, Channel A's 'Heart Signal 5' producer-director Park Cheol-hwan talked to OSEN about his impressions of the program's first broadcast and its future developments.
Park Cheol-hwan said of revealing the new season pleasantly after three years, "It had been a long time, and because this is the most renewed season, I was more nervous. I wanted to capture the charm and love of a new generation in a way fitting of Heart Signal."
When asked whether the reaction he had been expecting came out, Park said, "There were responses like, 'the development is faster and more witty,' 'the cast members' characters are well shown so immersion was quick,' and 'the female cast members were cheerful and honest so that was good.' There were also responses that parts where the heart-to-heart interviews were blended in felt unfamiliar," he recalled, mentioning reactions that stood out in his memory.
Park Cheol-hwan said, "We actually worried over the past two seasons wondering if people would accept it as unfamiliar," and added, "Because the new generation has its own language, I thought it would be better to convey that feeling vividly as it is. Please look forward to moments when the cast members' sincere words and actions they cannot hide come together to convey vivid and deep emotions."
In the episode aired the previous day of 'Heart Signal 5,' the first unanimous favorite woman since season 2 cast member Lim Hyeon-joo emerged. Kang Yu-gyeong swept three votes.
Park said of Kang Yu-gyeong's attractive points, "Kang Yu-gyeong seems to have a charm different from previous unanimous-favorite cast members. Of course, her pure and stylish appearance was an important point, but as Park Woo-yeol said in a one-on-one conversation, she is honest, down-to-earth and has a quirky charm."
He added, "That kind of twist in personality seems to be a reason a unanimous favorite appeared after a long time. All the female cast members have distinct charms and characters, so more varied love lines and stories unfold than ever. Please look forward to it."
The celebrities prediction panel's overinvolvement is also one of the can't-miss viewing points. With hits and misses in intuition, what will be future viewing points? Park Cheol-hwan expressed gratitude to the celebrity prediction panel, saying, "Tsuki is sharper than expected, Roy Kim is funnier than expected and gets overinvolved. I'm grateful and pleased that they immerse themselves so much that their overinvolvement might be the reason for their misses."
He said, "This time there are many moments where it's hard to predict the outcome even after hearing the true feelings. Emotions are intertwined and variables are numerous. Even when the prediction panel is wrong, they seem to enjoy the chaotic situations themselves, and that in itself appears to be a fun point."
Finally, regarding future changes in love lines, Park Cheol-hwan explained, "On the first day during the one-on-one conversations, the cast members' emotional progress sped up, and with the new residents joining more quickly, the tumultuous house arrives sooner."
Park Cheol-hwan said, "When love begins, you encounter many emotions. Watching the cast members go through moments that are thrilling but also scary and painful, I hope viewers can feel the dopamine of being head over heels in love with them. Please look forward to it."
