Broadcaster Seo Jang-hoon visits a 130-year infertility treatment shrine and continues with pointed questions.
On the 15th, EBS's Seo Jang-hoon's Millionaire Next Door features Baek Jin-ho, the fifth-generation head of a traditional Korean medicine family that has continued for 130 years since the Joseon Dynasty, who continues with candid stories.
His clinic, which has become a nationwide shrine for infertility treatment, is so popular that people not only pitch tents and spend the night to receive treatment but even sleep outdoors.
It began in 1890 with Baek Jin-ho's great-great-grandfather. From the clinic's early days, patients lined up from the entrance of the village, creating a huge crowd, and Baek Jin-ho says, "They say he earned the price of one ox in a day," conveying the fame of the time.
In particular, word of mouth exploded when his great-great-grandfather, who had suffered infertility for three years, succeeded in having children after relentless research, and afterward his family even gained the nickname "the samshin grandfather family." Baek Jin-ho himself also has the nickname "the modern samshin grandfather."
Behind Baek Jin-ho's dazzling reputation was a harsh growing pain. Baek Jin-ho began treating patients at the early age of 27, but he was often shunned simply because he was a "young Korean medicine doctor." He recalls the difficult times, saying, "Because a very young person provided treatment..." In fact, patients frequently turned away at the sight of his face, asking, "Where is the senior director?" while looking for his father. In addition, he complained that they poured out blunt doubts and personal questions such as, "Can you treat properly?" and "Are you married?"
Hearing these stories, Seo Jang-hoon asked bluntly, "Did your children perhaps come because of the help of this herbal medicine?" In response, Baek Jin-ho revealed an unexpected behind-the-scenes story related to the birth of one son and one daughter, surprising everyone. Furthermore, as an herbal doctor he mentioned the root causes of infertility he observed and his own convictions, which reportedly surprised everyone.
Meanwhile, EBS's Seo Jang-hoon's Millionaire Next Door will air at 9:55 p.m. on the 15th.
