On the 15th, a representative for the film Spider-Man: Brand New Day told OSEN, "Translator Hwang Seok-hee will not participate in the translation of this Spider-Man series," the official position said.
Originally, translator Hwang Seok-hee had handled translations for Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home and was active. Accordingly, he was expected to participate in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is about to be released, even translating the trailer. However, as recent allegations of sexual crimes surfaced, he has stepped down from the main film translation.
In relation to this, a representative for Spider-Man: Brand New Day added, "Among Sony's upcoming works, there is nothing that translator Hwang Seok-hee is in charge of." With movie fans' boycott sentiment strong over questions about Hwang Seok-hee's private life, it appears they drew a clear line considering that.
On the same day, a representative of musical Frozen's production company Clip Service also told OSEN, "Translator Hwang Seok-hee has stepped down from the production work for Frozen, which is slated to open its Korean premiere in August," the official position said.
The musical Frozen is an adaptation of Disney's popular animation Frozen into a musical. The original team that was successfully staged on Broadway was scheduled to open the Korean premiere in August, and Hwang Seok-hee had been participating as a translator for this.
However, the production team added, "The basic translation content will be used. The remaining portions will be completed by the production team." They did not disclose the specific portions of Hwang Seok-hee's participation.
On the 30th of last month, Hwang Seok-hee was engulfed in allegations that he committed sexual crimes on three separate occasions in the past. One media outlet claimed that Hwang Seok-hee sexually assaulted two women near Kangwon National University in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, in 2005, assaulted two people who tried to stop him, and in 2014, while working as an instructor at a cultural center, committed quasi-rape and illegal filming of a student and was given a suspended sentence.
However, translator Hwang Seok-hee released a statement on his personal SNS regarding the series of allegations: "I am currently reviewing the related matters with a lawyer.
