It was surprising that creators Choi Gogi and Yoo Gaet-ip showed differing stances on their divorce.
On the 14th episode of TV Chosun's X's private life, episode 5, "divorced for seven years" Yoo Gaet-ip (played by Yoo Ye-rin) and Choi Gogi (played by Choi Beom-gyu) appeared grants, drawing attention as they remembered differently who first brought up the divorce.
That day, Choi Gogi recalled his first meeting with Yoo Gaet-ip in an interview with the production team. In 2015, Yoo Gaet-ip came as an audience member to Choi Gogi's performance.
Choi Gogi said, "Like in a movie, I could only see Yoo Gaet-ip. She was pretty," explaining that after their first meeting as audience member and musician, they dated and became pregnant six months into the relationship and married in 2016.
But the two divorced in 2020, their fourth year of marriage. Kim Gu Ra asked, "Who first brought up the divorce?" and Yoo Gaet-ip answered Choi Gogi, while Choi Gogi answered Yoo Gaet-ip, surprising viewers.
Choi Gogi told the production team, "There were days in the past when Yoo Gaet-ip wasn't home. A friend came then and watched the child with me, and when Yoo Gaet-ip came home she did not greet the friend."
He went on to explain, "When I asked why she didn't greet them then, Yoo Gaet-ip said that if it was going to be like that we should rethink our married life," saying that differences in temperament, life patterns and conflicts between both families brought that anecdote to a close.
Yoo Gaet-ip acknowledged, "At the time Choi Gogi was saying too much in front of his friends, so I got angry and said let's think about it," while remembering that the wording "divorce" was first brought up by Choi Gogi.
Choi Gogi said the reason for the divorce was, "I value punctuality but Yoo Gaet-ip was a bit more free. We often fought because of our daily patterns, and conflicts built up even over small things like tidying habits."
He said the blurred boundaries between work and life also caused conflict. Choi Gogi reflected, "At the time I was so absorbed in work I was busy enough to earn 20 to 30 million won a month. I was very obsessed with money," and said he failed to understand Yoo Gaet-ip's feelings.
Differences between the families of the bride and groom over dowry also contributed to the couple's conflicts. Yoo Gaet-ip said, "I acknowledge everything Choi Gogi mentioned, but work-related issues and conflicts with my father-in-law were the biggest." <
