"I hope people will continue to remember the musician 'Wheesung' with joy." Singer Ali paid musical tribute to the late Wheesung.
On the 8th, MBC's It's Live Wheesung tribute episode was released on YouTube.
It's Live is a YouTube channel with about 2.3 million subscribers. Under the theme 'More than KPOP' it produces YouTube content that captures live K-pop stages and has won the love of not only domestic but also global fans.
Among them, the Wheesung tribute episode was a commemorative project prepared to honor Wheesung, who passed away in March last year. Hosted by Mighty Mouth, senior and junior singers who had been connected with the late artist in life, including Bang Yedam, K.WILL, Na Yoon-kwon, Soul-G, Jung In, JoJazz, Park Hye-won, Kim Jinho, and others, gathered in one place to add meaning.
Among them, Ali sang Wheesung's hit 'The day we met again.' Dressed in a white suit to add a sense of mourning, she reinterpreted the late artist's song with her characteristic deep tone and solid vocal skills as well as delicate expression.
That is understandable, as Ali debuted together with Wheesung in life. She said, "My first broadcast debut as a chorus was the Daegu teleconcert with Wheesung oppa; at that time he let me take the second verse chorus and an ad-lib, so I made my broadcast debut. So this song holds a lot of memories for me."
She added, "While doing chorus, I saw him carefully check things like the feel of the song and the microphone condition at every concert rehearsal. Because of that influence, after I debuted I also became meticulous about monitoring," noting the influence Wheesung had on her in life. She then said emphatically, "I hope today will be remembered as a happy day by the fans. I hope people will continue to remember the musician 'Wheesung' with joy."
Wheesung, who debuted in 2002 with 'Like A Movie,' received great love from the start with his debut song 'Can't I?' He was also loved for many hit songs including 'With me,' 'If it were a year,' 'Insomnia,' 'I even thought about marriage,' 'Heartbreaking story,' and 'Love tastes good.'
However, in 2020 he faced allegations of habitual propofol use and the following year was sentenced to one year in prison, two years of probation, 40 hours of community service, 40 hours of drug treatment lectures, and a fine of 60.5 million won. After that, he struggled to continue music activities as a singer, including using the pen name Shin Jin-seo. But on March 10 last year he was found in cardiac arrest at his home in Gwangjin District, Seoul, and died at age 43.
