Yu Jae-seok asked, "People always think Meryl is always in her prime, but I heard that when Meryl was about 40 she thought 'my career is over.'" Meryl Streep said, "When I turned 40 I was offered the role of a witch three times in a row. I had a gut feeling then," and added, "There is a long-standing prejudice in our industry against actresses. It may be a bit blunt to say, but the idea is that actresses are attractive only until 40 and then it's over."
She continued, "They see you as finished at 40 and don't know how to make use of us. In fact, I've often thought my career was over," and confessed, "Actors are always temporarily unemployed. Every time you finish a project you really think it's over." Anne Hathaway also added, "I think, 'I've done well enough, I was lucky.'" Hearing this, Yu Jae-seok said, "I'm surprised to hear you two say 'we're unemployed'" and couldn't believe it.
