MBC 'Fifties Professionals' The seemingly ordinary but deadly three men Shin Ha Kyun, Oh Jung-se, Heo Sung-tae come to living rooms.
MBC's new Friday-Saturday drama 'Fifties Professionals (Fifties Professionals)' (planned by Kwon Seong-chang / directed by Han Dong-hwa / written by Jang Won-seop / produced by Jempo Film, Studio Dragon) will premiere on May 22 as the follow-up to Perfect Crown. 'Fifties Professionals' tells the story of three men who seemed ordinary but still had some edge being set in motion again by fate; though life may have beaten them down and their bodies may have rusted, their loyalty and instincts remain, and it is a salty action comedy about true professionals who have lived through 50% of life. Each of the three men, who once made a name for themselves at the top of their fields, are demoted to the isolated Yeongseon Island after the "incident of that day" and will comically and painfully search for the "truth of that day," which has been on hold for 10 years.
Meanwhile, the main cast of 'Fifties Professionals' gathered in one place and the first script reading, which set off pleasant laughter and passion, was revealed. In particular, after director Han Dong-hwa, recognized for his masterful directing through Shadow Detective, Navillera and Police Unit 38, greeted everyone saying, "I hope production finishes safely and healthily and that you all take away good results from the set," the actors and staff introduced themselves with palpable excitement, creating a warm atmosphere.
First, Shin Ha Kyun, who has proven the sobriquet 'God Shin' for every role he appears in, including Thank You, The Villainess, Yonder, Monster and Bad Police, played Jung Ho-myung. Jung Ho-myung is a National Intelligence Service (NIS) agent who has been on standby for 10 years and now works as the head chef at Oran Restaurant, searching for an item to clear the false accusation from 10 years ago. In particular, Shin Ha Kyun shed the weighty image he has shown to reveal hidden comic chops in the character, and his passionate performance reportedly doubled the fun on set. His warm visuals in the stills also catch the eye.
Oh Jung-se will portray Bong Je-soon, a North Korean special operative who lost his memory 10 years ago, promising another career-defining role. Bong Je-soon was once a legendary human weapon produced by North Korea, but now he suffers day to day from workplace bullying by his boss and the antics of a childish nephew. The staff on set were reportedly astonished by the character work that is almost like playing two roles. Oh Jung-se's ability to make any character his own and his acting prowess will be on display again in 'Fifties Professionals.'
Heo Sung-tae, an all-rounder actor active in both drama and film, shone as Kang Beom-ryong, the second-in-command of the Hwasan faction who has guarded a convenience store for 10 years. Kang Beom-ryong infiltrates the island chasing Jung Ho-myung to avenge his disbanded organization but has failed to yield significant results for 10 years. The cognitive dissonance between Kang Beom-ryong's roles as a gangster and a convenience store owner is expected to be a comedic point of the drama, heightening curiosity about Heo Sung-tae's 180-degree transformation from his usual image and the Kang Beom-ryong character.
Moreover, 'Fifties Professionals,' led by Shin Ha Kyun, Oh Jung-se and Heo Sung-tae, completes a casting lineup that promises juicy fun with Kim Shin-rock (as Kang Young-ae), Lee Hak-ju (as Ma Gong-bok), Han Ji-eun (as Park Mi-kyung), Hyun Bong-sik (as Yoo In-gu), Kim Sang-ho (as Jo Sung-won), Shin Dong-mi (as Kwon O-ran), Kim Byung-Ok (as Hwang Hwa-san) and Kim Sang-kyung (as Han Kyung-wook). From the first read-through, the actors immersed themselves 100% in their respective characters and the script, creating an intense atmosphere that resembled an actual set. Laughter and applause erupted throughout the set, reportedly sending expectations for the 'Fifties Professionals' broadcast soaring.
After the script reading, Shin Ha Kyun said, "It will be a very new and entertaining drama," throwing out a pleasant declaration; Oh Jung-se vowed, "I will have fun and play energetically in this project," and Heo Sung-tae shared, "I am overwhelmed just to be working with senior Shin Ha Kyun and actor Oh Jung-se." Kim Shin-rock encouraged viewers, saying, "As the saying goes, Live Up to Your Name, so many tremendously funny actors are appearing that won't it just explode? I'm very much looking forward to it," while Lee Hak-ju described it as "a firm resolve to enjoy it," and Han Ji-eun also said, "The script is very funny and has many pleasant moments," further raising expectations.
