Group WJSN member Dayoung proved her solo capabilities with overwhelming stage presence.
Dayoung grants on the first part of composer Yoon Il-sang's episode of KBS2's 'Immortal Songs', which aired on the 11th.
She, appearing as a solo artist for the first time, kept the talk going with bright tension and positive energy, and on stage showcased a hip vibe and trendy performance while displaying the varied charms of a solo artist.
In a waiting room talk, Dayoung introduced her new song 'What's a girl to do (What's a girl to do)', released on the 7th, and finished preparations by showing a point choreography using a hooded zip-up. To MCs curious about her diet secrets, she said, "I lost 1kg a month, a total of 12kg. It's good to change eating habits little by little," and introduced a method to maintain both health and dieting.
Selecting Kim Gunmo's 'The Bird That Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' for the stage that day, Dayoung said she was excited, "This is a program my parents really like. My hometown is Jeju Island, so they don't come up to Seoul often, but this time they took a plane." She went on, "As soon as I saw the title 'The Bird That Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest,' I decided to become 'Cuckoo girl.' Since I prepared a cuckoo choreography, I want to make everyone remember, 'Who is that cuckoo girl?' " and expressed her determination.
Dayoung's reinterpretation of 'The Bird That Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' unfolded with a colorful arrangement that left no room for boredom. Even amid intense choreography she delivered steady breathing and refreshing high notes to complete a solid live performance, and a trendy rearranged rhythm blended with kitschy choreography. In particular, the dance break using a hat reversed the song's mood, raised immersion and left a deeper impression.
Watching Dayoung's stage from the waiting room, Lim Han-byeol praised, "After 10 years since debut, one might become complacent, but the way she keeps challenging herself is admirable," and Brave Girls' Minyoung and Mighty Mouth's Shorry commented, "She's so hot," and "She's so good I want to run away." Composer Yoon Il-sang highly praised, "If 'The Bird That Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' had appeared at Coachella, wouldn't it be a stage like this? It was really trendy. If I were to score it, it would be a perfect-stage."
Dayoung released her second digital single 'What's a girl to do' on the 7th and is actively promoting the title track 'What's a girl to do.' Through various broadcasts and content, she is conveying the charm of the new song from multiple angles, capturing the hearts of fans not only in Korea but globally.
Meanwhile, Dayoung will appear on SBS' 'Inkigayo' at 3:20 p.m. on the 12th.
