A hospital run by psychiatrist and broadcaster Yang Jae-woong closed after its suspension period ended.
According to a Yonhap News report on the 12th, the Bucheon City Public Health Center in Gyeonggi Province said the hospital run by Yang Jae-woong filed a notice of closure on the 1st.
At the time of the closure application, there were no patients remaining in the hospital, so no separate transfer measures or prior notification procedures were carried out.
Earlier, in May 2024, at the hospital where Yang Jae-woong operated, a woman in her 30s identified as Ms. A, who had been admitted for treatment of diet-drug poisoning, died.
Ms. A complained of abdominal pain, but the medical staff judged it to be constipation and administered laxatives, and it was found that despite the pain continuing, appropriate treatment was not provided, and the patient was even isolated in a stabilization room and restrained, according to the prosecution's indictment. Mr. B ultimately died of acute pseudo intestinal obstruction.
As a result of the incident, the attending physician in his 40s, Mr. B, and four nurses were brought to trial together, and they are being tried without detention. At the first hearing, the bereaved family urged severe punishment, saying, "It was neglect and abandonment, not simple medical negligence."
At the time, Yang Jae-woong issued an official apology through his agency Mystic Story, saying, "As the hospital director, not only I but all medical staff will sincerely cooperate with the investigation," and "I sincerely apologize to the deceased and the bereaved family."
The hospital was also notified by Bucheon City of a three-month business suspension after the incident and halted operations from the 1st to the 3rd.
