With psychiatric specialist Yang Jae-woong's clinic completing its closure report, Hanni has naturally seen her role as the hospital director's wife dissolve.
On the 12th, the Bucheon City Public Health Center in Gyeonggi Province said the clinic run by Yang Jae-woong filed a closure report on the 1st. There were no inpatients remaining at the clinic at the time of closure, so no separate transfer measures were carried out.
Yang Jae-woong's clinic was embroiled in controversy last May over a patient death. The deceased person surnamed A was admitted for treatment of poisoning from diet pills and died after 17 days; the fact was revealed two months after the death, and Yang Jae-woong, along with Hanni, who had promised to marry him, was criticized as there was no way she could not have known. Hanni also withdrew from a variety show she was scheduled to appear on but did not express any position on the matter.
Yang Jae-woong appeared as a witness at the National Assembly Health and Welfare Committee's audit and, when asked whether he acknowledged negligence, said, "I do not acknowledge it. It is difficult to acknowledge." He said, "Again, I apologize for failing to safely restore the daughter and sister who were brought in trusting and following our clinic."
In response, health authorities imposed a suspension of business penalty on the clinic from January to March in connection with the accident, and following the investigation the attending physician was detained and sent to trial. Four medical staff, including nurses and nursing assistants, were also indicted without detention on charges including professional negligence resulting in death.
Prosecutors say medical staff repeatedly administered psychotropic drugs that can cause bowel obstruction without sufficiently observing and managing the patient's condition. The police transferred seven clinic officials, including Yang Jae-woong, to prosecutors, but the prosecutors requested supplementary investigation, saying additional confirmation is needed.
Although Yang Jae-woong's clinic has closed, legal determinations over medical negligence and responsibility are expected to be decided through future trials and additional investigations.
Amid the controversy, Hanni and Yang Jae-woong's wedding has been postponed, and their relationship can be inferred from their "lovesagram" posts. Hanni still maintains a post commemorating 999 days, suggesting that she continues to trust and support Yang Jae-woong despite the difficult situation.
Meanwhile, Hanni is reviewing a role in the new KBS2 weekend drama "Love is coming." If Hanni confirms her appearance, it will mark her return to the small screen three years after Disney+'s "Talk about love," which aired in 2023. "Love is coming" is a drama that depicts the stories of people who sometimes wish their troubles were not their own and want to throw them away but are still family, and it is directed by producer Hong Seok-gu, who has presented many KBS weekend dramas including "Queen's House," "My only one," "Oh! Samkwang Villa!," and "Beauty and Mr. Romantic."
