Lee Mie-kyung died on April 11, 2004, at her home in Jeongneung, Seoul. She was 44 years old.
She was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in October 2003 and devoted herself to chemotherapy. Her condition improved enough for her to watch movies, but she suddenly became critically ill within a few days and died while her older brother and a college classmate watched.
