TWICE members Dahyun and Chaeyoung have halted group activities due to health issues, and concerns have grown after Momo said she had to have a tooth pulled because of scheduling problems.
Recently Momo said on the fan communication platform Bubble, "I had a tooth pulled in Chicago, and my left face is very swollen because it hasn't been long since I had it removed. Please understand even if I look too swollen."
Momo explained the reason for the extraction: "My tooth hurt so much during the Chicago concert that I couldn't sleep that night, so I went to a Chicago dentist in the morning. The place where I originally had a root canal got worse, and if I were to get treatment, I might have to go to Korea, but realistically it would be more than a week before I could go to Korea," she said.
She added that even after returning to Korea there would be no time to receive treatment, and because the pain was so severe she ultimately had the tooth extracted. She explained, "It wasn't originally to the point of needing removal, but I couldn't go to Korea, root canal treatment doesn't happen in a day, and there's no time. Because we had to perform, the dentist hesitated and then pulled it."
Fans who saw this continued to express concern about TWICE's health. Fans reacted, "Dahyun and Chaeyoung are resting too, the members' health is all over the place," "Dental health is really important," and "Toothaches are so painful.. I understand pulling it if there was no other way."
TWICE started their world tour last July in Korea and have been performing in Japan, Macau, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Thailand, followed by Canada and the United States. After finishing their U.S. shows, TWICE will continue with a European tour in Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
In particular, Dahyun was forced to miss the North American tour because of an ankle fracture. Last month, agency JYP said, "After careful discussion about the artist's condition and participation in performances, we have judged that sufficient rest and recovery are a priority over activities at this time. Dahyun will focus on recovery for the time being and plans to rejoin activities when she is in a condition to perform the choreography."
The day after the notice of Dahyun's suspension of activities, JYP explained Chaeyoung's health condition. The agency announced, "Chaeyoung felt an abnormality in her lower back this morning while preparing to depart, and it was judged that urgent medical examination was necessary, so the departure schedule was unavoidably postponed. She will receive an examination and treatment from medical staff."
Chaeyoung said she will reschedule her departure plans after receiving hospital examinations and necessary treatment. The agency added, "We inform you in advance that even if Chaeyoung participates in the performance, some limitations on her performance may apply."
Since then, the North American tour has been proceeding with the members excluding Dahyun and Chaeyoung. Concerns continue because following the suspension of some members, the health of the members who are active is not in a reassuring state.
