"Our Neighborhood Baseball Captain" featured Lee Dae-ho sharing his thoughts after watching his son, Lee Ye-seung, participate in the tryout.
KBS held an online press conference on the 10th for the new 2TV entertainment program Our Neighborhood Baseball Captain (shortened to Baseball Captain). The event was attended by PD Lee Jeong-wook and Park Yong-taek, Lee Dae-ho, Kim Tae Kyun, and Na Ji-wan, who discussed the program under the moderation of caster Lee Dong-geun.
Baseball Captain is a program that follows retired professional baseball stars as they each select U-10 youth players from their original clubs' hometowns to form teams and then compete in an actual league. With legend players such as Park Yong-taek, Lee Dae-ho, Kim Tae Kyun, and Na Ji-wan serving as managers, and with the support of actor Kim Seungwoo, who serves as president of the Korea Little Baseball Federation (KLBF), the program is expected to convey the fun of little league baseball to viewers through commentary by Lee Dae-hyung and caster Lee Dong-geun.
Among them, Lee Dae-ho will serve as manager of the Little Giants. He said, "I played as a player and now I will serve as a manager. I will do my best so that the Little Giants players can show good appearances and always do their best." Park Yong-taek said he joined, noting, "I hope our kids who are starting baseball grow up in a good environment," and Na Ji-wan said, "Becoming a manager, I have no intention of letting down the seniors. As manager of the Little Tigers, I am honored to be able to compete with the seniors and want to create a good picture."
He added, "I was very happy to be recruited. It was an honor to have the opportunity to teach youth players. I was happy to be able to do it again wearing the Giants uniform on my chest. I always teach the kids that baseball should be enjoyable but they must also have a competitive spirit. I teach them that while they can win when they are young, they must also learn to lose. I hope they take baseball seriously and that that seriousness helps them grow," he said.
Lee Dae-ho also explained his selection criteria, saying, "When selecting, I look at whether catch-ball is good or not. First, they must be able to catch the ball well. Since they are fourth graders, I saw many instances where games didn't go well because they dropped the ball a lot. When I asked elementary school managers, they advised that 'being able to catch-ball is basic, and faster players are better,' so I selected them accordingly."
In particular, regarding the attention his son Lee Ye-seung's participation in the tryout drew, he said, "I judged him more coldly as a fourth-grade player rather than based on baseball potential. Because he is my son, I watched thinking he would have to do a little better to be selected. Anyway, I would feel good if Ye-seung posts good results or shows good form. Still, I won't show it on the broadcast. I'll praise him at home. It can't be helped. Because I'm his dad, my mouth will go up when he does well."
Baseball Captain will premiere on Sunday the 12th at 9:20 p.m. <
