On the 8th episode of TV CHOSUN's 'Dad and me' (hereafter 'Dad&Me'), the story about Kim Jeong-tae's son Ji-hoo, which had been a hot topic, was featured. Ji-hoo, who shows focused study time at his desk and even excellent ability to understand English, was recommended to go to the United States.
However, the couple took the child to Seoul. Kim Jeong-tae's wife listed characteristics of Asperger's and said, "Ji-hoo showed such signs," and Kim Jeong-tae had also expected it to some extent. They thought it was right to first hear solutions or alternatives for their son.
But Ji-hoo felt anxious about being probed into. So the couple kindly explained to their son, "We're not going because you are sick; we're going to find out precisely."
Ji-hoo said he prefers being alone and that long conversations make him uncomfortable and make him want to escape. Including the couple, Ji-hoo had to check 500 psychological test items. Jun Hyun-moo said, "I personally went for psychiatric consultation and took such psychological tests. There are many items, and if you avoid one, another gets tangled," and Han Hye-jin said, "I also did a psychological test for a child. There are that many items. No matter how you try to avoid them, those items come up again. They examine that thoroughly," empathizing that psychiatric test questionnaires inevitably have many questions.
As a result, Ji-hoo ranked in the top 0.5% for spatial-temporal intelligence and the bottom 14% for verbal intelligence. In this part, Ji-hoo himself said it was difficult to judge Korean by "context," that is, by social cues, and detailed test results showed Ji-hoo had difficulty understanding people's facial expressions, that is, nonverbal habits. The doctor said it falls within the Asperger range on the autism spectrum and that it was mild Asperger syndrome.
The Kim Jeong-tae couple asked how the child should behave in society going forward and whether this career path was right. The couple and their younger son were already a family that consistently practiced 'role-playing' for Ji-hoo, saying, "At times like this you say it like this." The couple told the anxious Ji-hoo, "You've been declared a genius," and Kim Jeong-tae said, "If Ji-hoo finds something difficult or lacking, our family will practice together," comforting Ji-hoo. The younger brother also showed an active willingness to cooperate to help his older brother.
