Singer and actor Cha Eun-woo has paid the entire large tax assessment, and the actual burden is about 13 billion won, not the 20 billion won that was initially mentioned.
On the 9th, his agency Fantagio said about Cha Eun-woo's tax burden, "Some of the paid amount will be adjusted through the National Tax Service's refund procedure, and through our accountant we were informed that the actual burden will be at the level of about 13 billion won," the agency said.
Regarding the reduced amount, Fantagio explained, "Because personal income tax has been fully paid, this is the procedure to receive a refund for parts of corporate tax and value-added taxes that were subject to double taxation."
Earlier, Cha Eun-woo posted his position on social media and said, "I respect the National Tax Service's procedures and results, and to prevent further confusion I have paid all related taxes. I will also faithfully carry out the remaining procedures."
Cha Eun-woo also attributed problems such as the company formation that became an issue to himself, adding, "If there were parts I did not sufficiently examine, the responsibility for that also rests entirely with me. For any reason I will not avoid responsibility by saying 'I didn't know' or 'it was someone else's judgment.'"
Earlier, before enlisting last July, Cha Eun-woo underwent an intensive investigation by the Seoul Regional Tax Service's fourth investigation bureau on suspicion of tax evasion and was notified of a tax assessment exceeding 20 billion won. That amount is the largest assessment imposed on a domestic entertainer to date. Cha Eun-woo objected to the National Tax Service's decision and filed a "pre-taxation adequacy review," but after controversy he decided to pay all assessed taxes.
However, even if the full 20 billion won assessment is paid, to prevent double taxation Cha Eun-woo will be refunded the portions that overlap with previously paid corporate tax and value-added taxes. That amount is about 7 billion won, so the actual amount Cha Eun-woo pays is at the level of 13 billion won.
Meanwhile, Cha Eun-woo is currently serving in a military band and is scheduled to be discharged in January next year. He will appear in the Netflix production Wonderfuls, set to be released in May.
