Singer Nam Tae-hyun, who was prosecuted for drunk driving, was sentenced to one year in prison.
On the afternoon of the 9th, Yang Eun-sang, presiding judge and Director General of Criminal Division 11 at Seoul Western District Court, sentenced Nam Tae-hyun, who was indicted for violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving and exceeding the speed limit), to one year in prison and a fine of 1 million won.
The court said, "At the time of the offense, while driving on Gangbyeonbuk-ro at 182 km/h, he skidded to the fourth lane and struck the retaining wall outside the fourth lane, causing a very high risk to road traffic, which warrants severe punishment," as a reason for the sentence.
The court went on to say, "Although he committed the offense while on probation for drug-related legal violations, which makes the blameworthiness significant." However, it noted there was no concern for evidence tampering or flight and did not remand him in custody.
Meanwhile, Nam Tae-hyun is accused of earlier striking the center divider while attempting to overtake a preceding car near Dongjak-daero in the Ilsan direction of Gangbyeonbuk-ro on April 27 last year. There were no casualties, and at the time his blood alcohol concentration was reported to be at or above the license cancellation level of 0.08%.
This is Nam Tae-hyun's second drunk driving incident; he was previously caught on drunk driving charges in 2023 and received a summary order of a fine of 600,000 won.
