Radio Star's Park Gun-hyung recounted the anecdote of proposing to his wife, who is 11 years younger.
On the 8th broadcast of MBC variety show Radio Star (hereinafter Radio Star), in the special "The King's Warden and the man who lives with him," actors Kim Sooro, Eom Ki-joon, Park Gun-hyung and Kim Hyung-mook appeared.
That day Kim Kook Jin asked, "They say Park Gun-hyung has joined the ranks of the nation's thief," he asked. Park Gun-hyung recalled, "When I was on 'Real Men' the drill sergeant always asked questions, right? He asked if I had a girlfriend, and I said yes, so he asked how old she was, and I told him her age and my age. He immediately said, 'Get down on your stomach,'" he recalled.
Kim Gu Ra asked, "What kind of style is your wife? I heard she worked at a large company," he asked. Park Gun-hyung confessed, "She has retired now and is at Meta Comedy Club. So she produces stand-up comedy performances. Usually when I do comedy she doesn't laugh."
At that time Kim Sooro said, "The proposal is amazing," mentioning Park Gun-hyung's proposal. Park Gun-hyung said, "My wife dislikes events, so I wondered how to propose, and when I asked acquaintances they told me to just do it plainly. I asked, 'Where is your wife now?' and was told she was in Paris with her mother. They said, 'Then you go to Paris,'" he recalled.
At the time Park Gun-hyung was filming Real Men and only had two days off, but he went to Paris for a 2 Days & 1 Night trip. He said, "I hurriedly printed one banner, wrapped it up and boarded the plane with it."
When asked about his wife's reaction, Park Gun-hyung explained, "My wife was very surprised. She didn't expect me to appear in Paris. Since I couldn't contact her, I had to do the event, so I hired the person who was taking the snap photos to be my contact. And I told my mother-in-law in advance. My mother-in-law was moved first."
He went on, "My mother-in-law said, 'I'm so nervous that don't tell me. I can't keep this hidden,' she said. You have to be determined. I told her it absolutely must not be found out. Also, among Sooro hyung's acquaintances there is someone who lives in Paris. I asked them to help by saying they would come out to the cruise in front of Notre-Dame Cathedral at 5~6 and play a guitar."
Park Gun-hyung, who even enlisted the help of foreigners to successfully propose, added, "My wife screamed and then sat down." The actual video of Park Gun-hyung's proposal was released, and Kim Gu Ra joked, "If this had been uploaded on a personal YouTube channel it would have been huge. What a shame. It would have definitely gotten 2 to 3 million views."
Meanwhile, Park Gun-hyung married his wife, Lee Chae-rim, who is 11 years younger, in October 2014. After three miscarriages, the two embraced two precious children.
