Paco, a "Korea advocate" from France, learns pansori on "Welcome, First Time in Korea?"
On the 9th, MBC Every1's variety program "Welcome, First Time in Korea?" (shortened to "Welcome, Korea") released still cuts from episode 423 that will be revealed that evening.
In episode 423 of "Welcome, Korea," Paco from France meets master singer Song Jae-young, holder of Korea's intangible cultural heritage, with his friends Max and Jamil. Paco and his party previously learned pansori to fulfill Paco's wish to "desperately learn Korean songs," raising expectations.
In earlier filming, Paco and his friends met master singer Song Jae-young and attended the lesson with respectful attitudes. Master Song found it admirable that foreigners showed interest in pansori and personally prepared lyric sheets that included English pronunciation and French translation.
In response, Paco and his friends participated enthusiastically in the lesson. Paco confidently took the lead in singing during class. However, he repeatedly made mistakes on the difficult pitch-bending passages, drawing laughter, according to reports.
Despite that, Paco and his friends did not give up. They underwent an intense four-hour practice session and even attempted a solo stage.
After class, Max even made the bold suggestion, "Can we visit your home?" Paco and his friends visited master Song Jae-young's home and got to taste authentic Korean "home-cooked" meals, piquing curiosity. It airs today (the 9th) at 8:30 p.m.
