BTS is writing remarkable records on the U.S. Billboard main song chart 'Hot 100'.
According to Billboard's latest chart (April 11) released on the 7th, the title track SWIM from BTS's fifth studio album Arirang (ARIRANG) rose to No. 2 on the Hot 100. Ten of the 14 tracks charted. Leading with SWIM, the album tracks Body to Body (No. 42), Hooligan (No. 64), NORMAL (No. 73), FYA (No. 74), 2.0 (No. 75), Aliens (No. 84), Like Animals (No. 90), they don't know 'bout us (No. 94), Merry Go Round (No. 96) made the list in order.
On the global chart, where they debuted at No. 1 last week, they continue to show a strong presence. SWIM held the top spot for a second straight week on both the global 200 and the global (excluding U.S.) charts. Body to Body held at No. 2 on each chart. In particular, 13 vocal tracks excluding the bell sound of the Seongdeokdaewang Sinjong ranked within the top 30 of the global (excluding U.S.) and within the top 40 of the global 200. The new album's worldwide popularity was reflected across Billboard's charts. BTS swept the artist 100, digital song sales, top album sales and Billboard 200 charts this week following last week.
Notably, BTS is the only Korean artist to have topped the main album chart Billboard 200 for two consecutive weeks. They held high positions with No. 2 on world digital song sales and streaming songs, and No. 3 on top streaming albums and vinyl albums.
Momentum in Japan is also remarkable. According to Oricon on the 8th, Arirang recorded about 8.55 million weekly streams to hold the top spot for a second consecutive week on the weekly streaming ranking (April 13/measurement period: March 30–April 5). It is the first time a foreign artist has stayed at No. 1 for two weeks since APT. (ROSÉ & Bruno Mars) in November 2024. Earlier, BTS topped the chart with Dynamite, Film out, Butter, Permission to Dance and Yet To Come (The Most Beautiful Moment).
Meanwhile, the fifth studio album Arirang is BTS's first new release in three years and nine months and is a record that deeply explores universal emotions that anyone can relate to. The title track SWIM deals with the determination to keep moving forward amid life's adversities. RM participated broadly in the songwriting and expressed the honest stories that 'the current BTS' is thinking in the lyrics.
