Broadcaster An Sun-young spoke about her feelings after attending the first trial following an embezzlement loss of several hundred million won.
On the 8th, the YouTube channel This Is An Sun-young posted a video titled "How to live a 'godly' life by smartly breaking it into three-day chunks."
That day An Sun-young brought up the first trial she attended on the 1st after suffering about 400 million won in embezzlement last year.
She said, "I had that embezzlement issue today, right? It was the first time in my life that I went to criminal court as a witness," and added, "I learned about the embezzlement and reported it to the police in January last year. Today is April Fools' Day. It was the first time in 16 months that I saw that person."
She continued, "I wanted to meet that person and at least ask once why they did it, so I arrived early, and that person had their lawyer come first and only arrived just as the trial began. What I felt again was that a person who commits a crime cannot stretch out their legs and sleep comfortably. I thought they must have been punished in their heart to some extent," she added.
An Sun-young said that going through the embezzlement incident led her to several resolutions, noting, "People make mistakes, but repetitive actions that lead to crime are made by money — I felt that keenly. I will never trust someone with matters related to money and hand them over. And I will never engage in financial transactions with close people. I resolved, often through tearful anguish, to understand my financial situation well and to check thoroughly so there is no leakage whether through taxes or otherwise."
She added, "Because I have almost no sense of numbers, at least I decided to learn a program like Excel so I can check my own income and outgoings. In this tiny company the embezzled amount was nearly 400 million won; it could take the company years to earn and save that money. So imagine how tearfully I made this resolution. But the conclusion is that after four months I still can't even unlock my computer login password. People always repeat the same mistakes."
Meanwhile, last August An Sun-young confessed the embezzlement, saying, "An employee I thought of like family embezzled company funds for three years and seven months. The amount was so large that a small company couldn't shoulder it, and now the person has been indicted and is under investigation by the prosecution. The sense of betrayal and hurt was so great that going to the company and seeing other employees' faces was difficult. As a manager, I felt like I scored zero," she revealed.
